Job summary

Optum Ireland is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Real engineering team. You will design, build and scale cloud-native Java applications, focusing on secure, reliable services and API integrations. This role offers hybrid work between Dublin/Letterkenny and home-based arrangements.

You will collaborate with product, architecture and engineering peers, deliver automated tests, and contribute to DevOps and observability practices in a fast-paced health-tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST API development.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience using Git-based source control systems.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and design principles.
• Experience developing automated tests.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and support cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
• Develop scalable microservices in Azure cloud environments.
• Contribute to healthcare transaction processing solutions and service-oriented architectures.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to refine technical requirements.
• Create and maintain automated tests (unit/integration/end-to-end).
• Support CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Monitor production systems and implement long-term solutions.
• Enhance observability via logging, monitoring, and telemetry.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning and retrospectives.
