Job summary

UPMC Ireland is seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager 2, Quality and Patient Safety to lead and coordinate quality and patient safety initiatives at UPMC Kildare Hospital in Clane. The role involves professional leadership, clinical reviews, audits, incident learning, and continuous quality improvement.

The post focuses on developing and maintaining the Quality Management System, assuring compliance with national standards, and driving measurable improvements with cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse with at least 5 years post qualification experience.
• Demonstrated experience in quality and patient safety, including audit, assurance, risk management or governance.
• Experience with hospital accreditation (CHKS or JCI) is essential.
• Knowledge of healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient IT skills including MS Office; able to use email and collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the hospital quality improvement programme and strategy in collaboration with senior leaders.
• Develop, implement and monitor the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Ensure compliance with national healthcare standards (HIQA, JCI, ISO, CHKS, JAG, HSA).
• Lead quality audits, coordinate action plans and monitor outcomes.
• Analyse quality data, produce dashboards and present reports to senior leadership.
• Oversee the Risk Management Framework and maintain the risk register.
• Lead incident management including investigations and RCA, promoting learning.
• Promote a culture of open disclosure and support staff involved in incidents.
• Ensure statutory reporting of incidents and risks where required.
• Implement patient safety initiatives and monitor safety indicators and outcomes.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary patient safety committees and safeguarding compliance.
• Lead continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA cycles, and process mapping.
• Train staff on quality tools and improvement methods; coach cross-department projects.
• Develop and track KPIs to measure progress and sustained improvement.
• Prepare for internal and external inspections or accreditation surveys.
• Ensure documentation, policies and processes meet required standards.
• Liaise with regulators and accreditation bodies; support service development.
• Provide regular quality, risk and patient safety reports to senior management.
• Support clinical audit programmes and oversee action plans.
• Contribute to governance meetings and evidence-based decision-making.
• Deliver training on risk management, incident reporting and improvement tools.
