We are looking for a Chartered Civil Engineer with a specialization in Infrastructure Engineering (roads, tunnels and other transport infrastructure, ideally including also airports), and proven experience (circa 20 years) in the management of design within Design & Build (D&B) projects, to join our growing team delivering major infrastructure projects in Ireland.

This position is ideally suited to a Design Manager / Design Lead profile, with strong experience in contractor-led environments and the ability to operate at the interface between design, programme and construction.

Candidates with fewer years of experience will also be considered, provided they demonstrate solid and relevant experience in Design & Build environments, particularly in design coordination and delivery.

The role will be based in our Dublin office, located at Dublin Airport, and integrated within multidisciplinary teams across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Act as Design Manager / Design Lead within a Design & Build team, interfacing directly with the Contractor, Employer’s Representative and key stakeholders.
• Play a key role in the delivery of high-profile infrastructure projects in Ireland, including works at Dublin Airport, and particularly the new airfield Underpass.
• Manage and coordinate design packages, ensuring timely delivery, quality, buildability and alignment with Employer’s Requirements and contractor obligations.
• Lead the coordination of multidisciplinary design teams, integrating inputs across disciplines and ensuring full design alignment with construction activities.
• Coordinate and drive the design programme, ensuring alignment with construction sequencing, key milestones and overall delivery strategy.
• Ensure that design outputs are reviewed, approved and delivered to the required level of quality, focusing on coordination rather than production.
• Actively contribute to Early Warning Notices (EWN) and Compensation Events, including assessment of design impacts on cost and programme under NEC or similar contract frameworks.
• Drive alignment between design, programme and commercial requirements, supporting proactive risk management and efficient project delivery.
• Manage interfaces with contractors, subcontractors, local authorities, utilities providers and clients, resolving design-related issues during delivery.
• Contribute to both tender and delivery phases within contractor-led or contractor-integrated D&B environments.
• Ensure compliance with Irish regulatory frameworks, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) requirements, and applicable UK/EU standards.

About You

Apply if you…

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and are a Chartered Engineer (Engineers Ireland or equivalent recognised institution). A Master’s degree in Infrastructure, Transport Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
• Have extensive experience (ideally ~20 years) in design and engineering consultancies, with a strong focus on Design & Build project delivery and design management.
• Applicants with fewer years of experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong and relevant D&B experience.
• Have experience in transport infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.), ideally within the Irish or UK market.
• Experience in airport infrastructure or other complex, operationally constrained environments (e.g. live operations) will be highly advantageous.
• Have acted as a Design Manager, Design Lead or Technical Lead within contractor-led or integrated D&B teams.
• Have experience working in fast-paced, programme-driven delivery environments, with close interaction with construction teams.
• Have a strong understanding of Irish infrastructure delivery frameworks, including TII standards and public sector project requirements.
• Experience working with or alongside Tier 1 contractors will be considered an advantage.
• Have strong stakeholder management skills and are comfortable leading technical discussions with clients and delivery teams.
• Are a team player with strong coordination skills, capable of working independently in a demanding D&B environment.
• Have an advanced level of English; Spanish will be considered an asset
