Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct, interpret and report GI physiology investigations (manometry, pH, pH-impedance, breath tests).
  • Prepare, calibrate and maintain GI physiology equipment with patient safety in mind.
  • Collaborate with physicians in motility disorder assessment and obtain informed consent.
  • Review results, produce clinical reports and maintain confidential records.
  • Provide training, supervision and mentorship to junior staff and students.
  • Participate in audits, QA, risk management and service evaluations.
  • Support service innovation and adoption of new technologies and best practices.

Job description

We are currently recruiting a Gastrointestinal Physiologist – Chief II to join our client’s hospital in Dublin, Ireland.


Responsibilities


  • Conduct, interpret and report a range of specialised gastrointestinal physiology investigations, including high-resolution oesophageal manometry, 24-hour pH and pH-impedance monitoring, SIBO testing, and hydrogen and methane breath tests.

  • Ensure GI physiology equipment is appropriately prepared, calibrated and maintained to deliver accurate and reliable diagnostic measurements, while prioritising patient safety, comfort and dignity throughout procedures.

  • Work closely with physicians in the assessment and management of gastrointestinal motility disorders, providing patients with clear information regarding procedures, preparation and relevant requirements, and obtaining informed consent in line with hospital policies.

  • Review and analyse diagnostic results, prepare comprehensive clinical reports, and maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with relevant data protection requirements.

  • Support the development of staff by providing training, supervision and mentorship to junior colleagues, students and new team members, while contributing to ongoing professional development within the service.

  • Participate in clinical audits, quality assurance initiatives, risk management activities and service evaluations, supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices and continuous service improvement.

  • Contribute to the development and advancement of the GI physiology service by supporting innovation, emerging technologies and best clinical practices, while demonstrating strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, communication abilities and attention to detail.


Requirements


  • Hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Clinical Measurement Science from Technological University Dublin (TUD), Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT, up to 2018), or an equivalent qualification recognised by the IICMP/HSE.

  • Alternatively, hold a Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology, where the qualification was obtained in or before 2005.

  • Have specialised training in gastrointestinal physiology, gained through accredited education programmes and/or relevant practical experience within a gastrointestinal motility laboratory.

  • Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience as a Gastrointestinal Physiologist, with comprehensive knowledge of gastroenterology diagnostic investigations.

  • Demonstrate strong clinical competence, professional knowledge and the ability to contribute effectively to the ongoing development and improvement of the GI physiology service.

  • Possess excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks and meet required deadlines effectively.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, with a proactive, motivated and innovative approach; previous management or supervisory experience is desirable.
