Job summary

Morgan McKinley in Dublin is seeking a BI Team Lead to manage a distributed team of BI developers. You will lead architecture, governance, and platform engineering for a modern data platform built on Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Databricks, while embedding AI-enabled practices into the SDLC.

You will collaborate with Scrum Product Owners and executives, ensure cloud cost control, and drive governance across AWS/Azure/GCP environments. Hybrid 3 days in-office in Dublin.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/IS or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years leading BI / data development teams and delivering enterprise BI solutions.
• Hands-on with Power BI and Databricks; experience with Qlik Sense/ QlikView is a plus.
• Strong SQL/DAX, data modelling, governance, and cloud security awareness.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum with stakeholders and governance practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed BI team across time zones and conduct regular 1-1s and code reviews.
• Drive platform evolution from legacy tools to Power BI, Fabric, and Databricks.
• Define data governance standards, semantic layers, and security models.
• Partner with Product Owners, Cloud/Data Engineering, and executives.
• Promote AI-assisted development and robust CI/CD practices.

Location: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid) 3 days onsite Per week

Salary: €90,000 - €100,000 DOE + Package

About the Department & Role

This role provides technical and people leadership for the global Business Intelligence and Analytics platforms. As the BI Team Lead, you will manage a distributed team of BI developers across multiple regions (including North America and APAC) while remaining hands-on in solution architecture, data governance, and platform engineering.

This is a high-impact, career-defining role. You will act as the key technical leader driving our strategic migration from legacy reporting solutions to a modern data platform built on Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Databricks, while embedding AI-assisted development practices into our software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage, mentor, and upskill a distributed team of 4 BI developers across time zones, conducting regular 1-on-1s, code reviews, and performance evaluations.
• Platform Evolution & Architecture: Lead the delivery of governed, scalable analytics solutions, spearheading the strategic migration away from legacy BI tools (Qlik Sense) toward Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks.
• Integration & Governance: Define and enforce standards for BI semantic layers, data governance frameworks, security (row/column-level), and integration patterns between Databricks, APIs, and reporting engines.
• Stakeholder Management & Gatekeeping: Partner closely with Scrum Product Owners, Cloud/Data Engineering teams, C-suite executives, and external clients-tailoring technical messaging to align with diverse business priorities.
• AI & Engineering Standards: Drive the adoption of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q) to optimize development workflows, while enforcing core engineering practices including Git version control, Python scripting, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cloud & Operations: Oversight of cloud architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP) with an eye toward cost management, resource optimization, and SLA compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

Must-Haves:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• Leadership Experience: Proven track record leading, mentoring, or acting as a technical lead for a team of BI/Data developers.
• BI & Data Engineering Core: 5+ years of experience designing and building enterprise BI solutions, complex SQL/DAX queries, data models, and database objects.
• Modern Analytics Stack: Hands-on experience with Power BI and Databricks. Exposure to or experience with Qlik Sense / QlikView (or legacy BI platforms) is highly valued to guide platform migration.
• Cloud Technologies: 5+ years of experience working with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including S3/storage services, cloud databases, and cloud security frameworks.
• Developer Workflows & Scripting: Strong proficiency in Python, Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, and API development/consumption.
• AI Tooling Adoption: Practical experience leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q) to improve developer productivity and problem-solving.
• Agile & Governance: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments alongside Product Managers and experience enforcing data governance/security standards.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Financial Services Domain: Prior experience in Financial Services, Banking, Asset Management, or Hedge Fund operations.
• Microsoft Fabric: Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric architecture (OneLake, Direct Lake, Lakehouses/Warehouses).
• Cloud Cost Management: Understanding of cloud compute optimization and budget forecasting.
