Job summary

DB Recruitment is seeking an experienced Head of BI, Data & AI to lead the organisation’s BI, Data and AI strategy and function, working onsite three days a week. You will build and govern a modern data platform, develop dashboards and advanced analytics, identify AI use cases with real business value, and partner with senior leaders to align data initiatives with strategic priorities.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Head of BI, Data & AI to lead the organisation’s Business Intelligence, Data and Artificial Intelligence strategy and function of a fast growing business. This will be 3 days a week onsite.

This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for transforming how data is managed, analysed and used across the organisation. The successful candidate will lead the BI and data teams, establish a clear data and AI roadmap, improve reporting and analytics capabilities, and identify practical opportunities to use AI to improve business performance.

The role will work closely with senior business leaders, Technology, Finance, Operations and other key functions to ensure data and AI initiatives are aligned with strategic business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and own the organisation's BI, Data & AI strategy and roadmap.
• Lead and develop BI, data engineering, analytics and AI capabilities.
• Build a high-performing team and determine the appropriate mix of internal capability, external partners and specialist resources.
• Modernise the organisation's BI and reporting environment, improving access to accurate and timely management information.
• Establish a scalable and trusted enterprise data platform.
• Lead the development of dashboards, reporting and advanced analytics solutions that support better business decision-making.
• Identify and prioritise AI and Generative AI use cases with clear commercial or operational value.
• Take AI initiatives from proof-of-concept through to production and measurable business adoption.
• Develop appropriate governance for the responsible and secure use of AI.
• Establish data governance standards covering data quality, ownership, security, lineage and accessibility.
• Work with business leaders to define KPIs and create a consistent approach to performance reporting.
• Partner with Architecture, Applications, Infrastructure, Cloud, Cyber Security and other technology teams.
• Oversee data integration across core enterprise applications and external data sources.
• Manage relationships with technology vendors, implementation partners and specialist data/AI providers.
• Define and monitor KPIs measuring the value and adoption of BI, data and AI initiatives.
• Build data literacy across the organisation and encourage greater self-service analytics.
• Contribute to wider technology strategy, transformation programmes and investment decisions.

Experience & Skills

• Significant experience across Business Intelligence, Data, Analytics and/or AI, including leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience defining and delivering an enterprise data strategy.
• Strong track record of leading BI, analytics, data engineering or data platform teams.
• Experience delivering modern cloud-based data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of BI and visualisation technologies such as Power BI.
• Experience with technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse or equivalent.
• Good understanding of data warehousing, data lakes/lakehouses, ETL/ELT, APIs and data integration.
• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality and master data management.
• Practical understanding of AI, Machine Learning and Generative AI, including how these technologies can be applied within an enterprise environment.
• Experience progressing AI initiatives beyond experimentation into production environments would be highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of AI governance, security, privacy and responsible AI considerations.
• Excellent stakeholder-management skills with experience working with senior executives and business leaders.Strong commercial mindset with the ability to translate technology investment into measurable business outcomes.
• Proven people leadership and team-development experience.
