Job summary

Fruition Group Ireland is seeking an experienced BI Developer to design, develop and maintain enterprise BI solutions. You will work with stakeholders to deliver Power BI dashboards and semantic models using DAX, SQL and Microsoft Fabric in an Azure-based environment.

Key focus areas include data modelling, performance tuning, security (RLS) and collaboration with data engineers and analysts to drive trusted reporting across the organisation.

Job description

My client, based in Westmeath, is currently recruiting for an experienced BI Developer to join their team on a permanent basis. The BI Developer will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining Business Intelligence solutions that transform complex data into meaningful, actionable insights. Working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, the successful candidate will deliver trusted reporting and analytics solutions that support informed decision-making across the organisation.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong, relevant BI development experience, with particular depth in data modelling for BI solutions, DAX and SQL, alongside hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar Azure-based data technologies, including Dataflows and Data Pipelines. The role combines technical expertise with strong business understanding to develop scalable, secure and high-performing BI solutions. It primarily utilises Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric to develop, deploy and support enterprise reporting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear, accurate and meaningful business insights.
• Translate business requirements into effective reporting solutions, including visualisations, measures, KPIs, drill-through functionality, filters and navigation.
• Design, develop and maintain robust semantic and dimensional data models for BI solutions, ensuring data is structured effectively for reporting, analytics and performance.
• Develop efficient and maintainable DAX measures, calculations and business logic, applying appropriate best practices.
• Use SQL extensively to query, transform, validate and troubleshoot reporting datasets, including developing and optimising complex queries and views.
• Optimise report and model performance by improving data models, DAX calculations, queries, visual rendering and overall solution efficiency.
• Work within Microsoft Fabric and the Power BI Service to manage workspaces, semantic models, deployments, refresh schedules and application publishing.
• Work with Dataflows, Data Pipelines and/or comparable Azure-based data integration technologies to support the movement, transformation and preparation of data for BI solutions.
• Implement and maintain appropriate security controls, including workspace permissions and Row-Level Security (RLS), ensuring secure access to reporting solutions.
• Support testing, quality assurance and user acceptance activities, resolving issues and implementing enhancements where required.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation covering reports, semantic models, calculations, data sources, refresh schedules and support procedures.
• Monitor and support operational reporting processes, including scheduled refreshes, production support, issue resolution and controlled release management.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, business stakeholders and other technical teams to deliver high-quality Business Intelligence solutions.
• Promote best practices in Business Intelligence development, data governance, solution design and reporting standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Candidates should be able to clearly demonstrate their years and depth of relevant BI experience, particularly across the following areas:

• BI Development Experience: Proven commercial experience designing, developing and supporting Business Intelligence and reporting solutions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the scope, complexity and scale of the BI environments they have worked within.
• Data Modelling: Strong hands-on experience designing data models specifically for BI and reporting solutions, with a solid understanding of dimensional modelling, relationships, star schemas, semantic models, performance and scalability.
• DAX: A high level of confidence and practical experience with DAX, including developing measures, calculated logic and more complex business calculations while considering maintainability and performance.
• SQL: Strong to advanced SQL capability, including writing, optimising and troubleshooting complex queries, developing views, transforming data and validating reporting datasets.
• Microsoft Fabric: Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric, ideally within an enterprise reporting or analytics environment.
• Azure Data Technologies: Experience with Dataflows, Data Pipelines or comparable Microsoft/Azure-based data integration and transformation technologies would be highly beneficial.
• Strong expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including report development, semantic modelling, Power Query, deployment, security and performance optimisation.
• Good understanding of how Power BI and reporting solutions integrate with modern cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience translating complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable and user-focused reporting solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple priorities across project delivery, continuous improvement initiatives and operational support.
