Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech in Cork, Ireland, seeks an Automation Manager to join Site Engineering. You will lead the Automation and Manufacturing Systems team at a large orthopaedic manufacturing site, accountable for reliability, lifecycle, compliance, and digital capabilities.

Join a regulated environment, partner with Operations, IT, Quality, and global teams, and drive the automation roadmap while ensuring safe, compliant, and scalable performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Information Technology, Science, or related discipline.
• 8+ years in GMP-regulated manufacturing with progressive leadership.
• 3+ years in people-management.
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting manufacturing automation and control systems.
• Experience delivering automation through design, integration, validation, and ramp-up.
• Knowledge of PLC/HMI, robotics, networks, data platforms.
• Familiarity with ISA-88/ISA-95/GAMP and validated project delivery.
• Project management experience and fluent English; willing to travel internationally (up to 10%).

Responsibilities

• Lead site automation support for production-critical equipment and systems.
• Diagnose faults across PLC/HMI, robotics, motion, vision, networks, historians, data platforms.
• Lead automation activities from concept to production ramp-up.
• Define automation architectures, standards, data requirements, cybersecurity.
• Own site roadmap and lifecycle for manufacturing systems and data historians.
• Develop prioritized automation roadmap and investment plan for the site.
• Support investigations, CAPAs, audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, inclusive team.
