Job summary

Baker Finn Recruitment is seeking an Automation Engineer to oversee automated production lines and additive manufacturing processes, ensuring quality and efficiency. The role focuses on process development, optimisation, root cause analysis, and systematic problem solving across high-volume manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities include design, installation, validation of lines, DSP/DFMEA/PFMEA/DOE, and driving continuous improvement while supporting training and GMP compliance.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
• 2-4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with additive manufacturing processes would be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel as required to support equipment buy-offs and training at vendor/customer sites.

Automation Engineer

Role Overview

The Automation Engineer is responsible for monitoring the quality and efficiency of assigned product lines and supporting continuous improvement through process development, process optimisation, root cause analysis, and systematic problem solving.

The role will provide technical expertise across automated production lines and additive manufacturing processes, ensuring production processes meet quality, efficiency, and performance targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design, equipment buy-off, installation, commissioning, and validation of automated production lines.
• Lead and support process characterisation and optimisation activities, including DFMEA, PFMEA and DOE.
• Lead systematic technical root cause investigations and support the implementation of effective corrective actions.
• Support production line ramp-up to achieve mature production targets.
• Develop and implement production and processing methods and controls to meet quality standards efficiently.
• Monitor additive manufacturing processes, troubleshoot issues, and assist in resolving quality and production problems.
• Act as the technical expert on assigned projects, production jobs, and manufacturing processes.
• Drive continuous improvement projects to improve quality, efficiency, and process performance.
• Manage assigned project budgets and liaise with customers and contractors as required.
• Support technical training and knowledge transfer.
• Support all company safety and quality programmes and initiatives.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with GMP requirements, including accurate recording of events and processes.
• Ensure compliance with all requirements and learnings from GMP training.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as required based on the needs of the business and department.

Education & Experience

• Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
• 2-4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in high-volume automated assembly would be advantageous.
• Medical device manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
• Experience with additive manufacturing processes would be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel as required to support equipment buy-offs and training at vendor/customer sites.
