Baker Finn Recruitment is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a medical devices production environment in Ireland (Munster).

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/engineering or technical production environment is desirable.
  • Exposure to medical device, pharmaceutical or highly regulated manufacturing environments is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, or process optimisation is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to resolve production issues relating to machinery and tooling.
  • Lead root cause investigations to prevent recurring production problems.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects across manufacturing processes and operations.
  • Support characterisation and optimisation of medical device products and processes.
  • Design, document, and execute experiments and tests for process improvement and validation.
  • Participate in FMEA, DOE and structured engineering activities.
  • Develop and maintain tooling, equipment, and process documentation.
  • Update engineering drawings and maintenance procedures as required.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to boost performance.
  • Support safety, quality, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Manufacturing Engineer – Medical Devices

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Department: Manufacturing / Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team within a medical device manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will provide technical support to production, resolve machine and tooling issues, reduce scrap, improve throughput, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes and operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong problem-solving mindset and an interest in manufacturing, process optimisation, and medical device production to make a direct impact on operational performance, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support in resolving production issues relating to machinery, tooling, processes, scrap reduction, and production throughput.
  • Lead technical problem-solving activities and root cause investigations to identify and eliminate recurring production issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects across manufacturing processes, tooling, and operations.
  • Support the characterisation and optimisation of medical device products and manufacturing processes.
  • Design, document, and execute experiments and tests to support process improvement and validation activities.
  • Participate in FMEA, DOE, and other structured engineering and risk assessment activities.
  • Develop and maintain tooling, equipment, and process documentation.
  • Update engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, work instructions, and other technical documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and other relevant departments to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Support the implementation of safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP requirements and company procedures in all manufacturing practices, records, and processes.
  • Complete and apply learnings from GMP training and other relevant training programmes.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and ensure engineering activities are appropriately documented.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required to support the evolving needs of the business and department.
Candidate Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or technical production environment is desirable.
  • Exposure to medical device, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, or process optimisation is beneficial.
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret production data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles and Lean Six Sigma would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of project management principles would be beneficial.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Key Stakeholder Relationships

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with the following internal and external stakeholders:

  • Moulding Workcell Technical Lead: Reporting line, technical guidance, prioritisation of engineering activities, and performance updates.
  • Operations and Managers: Production support, issue resolution, process improvements, throughput optimisation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Customers, Vendors, and Suppliers: Technical communication, equipment and tooling support, problem resolution, and coordination of engineering requirements.
