Job summary

Baker Finn Recruitment is seeking an Automation Engineer for a leading medical device manufacturer in County Cork, Ireland. This fully onsite role involves hands-on automation support, responding to production issues, updating machine software and supporting equipment upgrades in a fast-paced environment.

You will join a team of eight engineers, collaborating with production, maintenance and engineering colleagues to drive continuous improvement while maintaining strict safety and quality

Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens or Allen-Bradley automation systems.
  • Experience with automation technologies in manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced production.
  • Strong problem-solving and hands-on approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite.
  • Experience with PLC programming.
  • Experience with upgrades or manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Experience in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to machine downtime and equipment issues to minimise production disruption.
  • Provide day-to-day technical and engineering support to manufacturing operations.
  • Update and modify machine software as required.
  • Support equipment upgrades, modifications and improvements.
  • Assist with maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Troubleshoot automation and control-system issues.
  • Work closely with production, maintenance and engineering colleagues to resolve technical issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Follow all relevant safety, quality and manufacturing procedures.

Job description

We are recruiting for an Automation Engineer on behalf of a leading medical device manufacturing organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of eight engineers working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, providing hands-on automation and engineering support to ensure production equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

The successful candidates will play a key role in responding to equipment issues, supporting production, upgrading machinery and contributing to ongoing maintenance and improvement projects.

Please note: this is a fully onsite position with no flexibility for remote or hybrid working.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respond promptly to machine downtime and equipment issues to minimise disruption to production.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working with Siemens or Allen-Bradley automation/control systems.
  • Previous experience working with similar automation technologies in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly to production issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and genuine willingness to learn.
  • Ability and willingness to work fully onsite.
  • Experience with PLC programming.
  • Broader experience across industrial automation and control systems.
  • Experience supporting equipment upgrades or manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Experience within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
