Job summary

Fitzgerald Power in Waterford, Ireland is seeking an experienced Audit Assistant Manager to lead audit engagements and manage a diverse client portfolio. This full-time role involves planning audits, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with auditing standards.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and technically strong Audit Assistant Manager to join our audit team. This is a key role within the team, with responsibility for leading audit engagements from planning through to completion, managing a portfolio of clients, and supporting the development of junior staff.

What will you do?
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of audit assignments across a range of sectors, ensuring engagements are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard
  • Plan audit engagements, including risk assessment, scoping, and the preparation of tailored audit programmes
  • Act as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong working relationships
  • Review the work of audit trainees, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with FRS 102 and other applicable Irish/UK GAAP standards
  • Identify audit issues and communicate findings clearly to the Audit Manager and engagement partner
  • Contribute to the preparation of management letters and audit completion reports
  • Ensure audit files are completed in compliance with ISAs (Ireland) and firm methodology
  • Assist with business development activities, including involvement in client proposals and tenders
  • Support the mentoring and training of junior members of the audit team
  • Keep up to date with changes in Irish and international auditing and accounting standard
What will you bring?
  • Qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent (membership of Chartered Accountants Ireland preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in external audit, ideally within practice
  • Strong working knowledge of ISAs (Ireland), FRS 102, and Irish Companies Act 2014 requirements
  • Experience managing multiple audit assignments and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop junior staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-focused approach
  • Proficiency in audit software (desirable)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
