Job summary

KPMG Ireland is seeking an Associate Director/Director in Software Technology for our R&D Incentives Practice in Dublin. The role combines technical leadership with client-facing responsibilities to translate complex software work into eligible R&D tax credits and grants.

You will lead senior teams, review technical reports, and collaborate with clients to drive successful incentives projects while guiding delivery and growth of the software technology capability within the practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years in software engineering, architecture or leadership roles.
• Hands-on experience designing or overseeing complex software systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical engagements for multinational and indigenous clients.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and tech leads to map R&D incentive criteria to development activities.
• Assess software projects against R&D incentive criteria and prepare robust technical reports.
• Manage client relationships and act as trusted advisor to ensure outcomes.
• Coach and develop technical consultants within the practice.

We are interested in candidates who bring strong software engineering credentials, technical leadership experience, excellent verbal and written communication skills and a passion for understanding how complex technologies are developed and who can utilise their technical knowledge to assist companies with the preparation of the scientific/technical aspects of R&D tax credit claims and RD&I grant funding applications.

A Snapshot Of Your Peer Group

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, software architecture, or software technology leadership roles.
• Significant hands-on experience designing, developing or overseeing complex software systems.
• Strong technical knowledge across areas such as cloud computing, distributed systems, AI/ML, enterprise software, cybersecurity, telecommunications, data platforms or embedded systems.
• The ability to rapidly understand new technologies and complex technical challenges.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence team members, clients and other stakeholders. This includes the ability to speak in front of an audience, excellent professional influencing skills and demonstrable ability to manage groups of diverse stakeholders (internal and external).
• Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
• Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to analyse a situation and determine the best course of action.
• Capable of being responsible for multiple projects at once. This means you will need to be comfortable multitasking and managing conflicting requirements, while delivering to tight deadlines.
• Ability to understand and meet the needs of clients, requiring excellent influencing skills.
• Previous experience in tax or professional services is not required. We are primarily seeking candidates with strong technical depth, excellent communication skills and demonstrable leadership capability

The role

As part of our growing software technology team, you will work alongside other senior technical leaders within the practice to support the delivery of high-quality R&D incentives services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Leading technical engagements for multinational and indigenous clients.
• Working directly with software engineers, architects, engineering managers and technology leaders to develop understanding around how the R&D incentive criteria could apply to their complex development activities.
• Assessing software and technology projects against R&D incentive criteria.
• Preparing and reviewing robust technical reports supporting client claims.
• Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor.
• Coaching and developing technical consultants within the practice.
• Collaboratively managing a team of technical consultants to deliver high-quality solutions that meet client needs in the R&D incentives space.
• Collaborating with other senior technical specialists to continually enhance our service offering.
• Effectively manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful delivery of projects.
• Supporting business development activities, proposals and client presentations.
• Contributing to the ongoing growth and evolution of the software technology capability within the practice.
• Identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and client outcomes.

We work with multinational and indigenous companies in sectors includingsoftware, electronics, life sciences, ICT, manufacturing sectors, food and drink, agri, etc) and assist them to claim Research and Development incentives (mainly the R&D tax credits and IDA/EI Grants) for their investment in R&D activities in Ireland.
