Job description

Flogas Ireland is seeking an Analytics Engineer to own the data modelling layer that turns raw operational data into trusted, analysis-ready datasets. Sitting at the critical bridge between data engineering and business intelligence, this role builds and governs the transformation logic underpinning our Microsoft Fabric platform, ensuring every dataset used for reporting and decision-making is accurate, well-documented, and built to a consistent standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the semantic layer underpinning Power BI reporting, ensuring consistent metric and dimension definitions across the business.
  • Define and enforce data testing and quality standards for the transformation layer, catching issues before they reach reporting or business users.
  • Design, build, and maintain dbt models (or equivalent) that transform raw source data into clean, tested, and well-documented datasets across the Medallion Architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers).
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure upstream pipelines deliver source data fit for modelling, and with Power BI Developers to ensure reports are built on certified datasets.
  • Document data models, transformations, and business logic in the data catalogue, reducing key-person dependency and enabling self-service analytics.
  • Partner with the IT business partners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-structured, reusable data models.
  • Champion data modelling standards, version control practices, and CI/CD for analytics code as the platform matures.
Essential Criteria
  • Proven experience (7+ years) as an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, or in a similar role
  • Solid understanding of dimensional modelling and Medallion/Lakehouse architecture patterns
  • Experience of data modelling using Kimball methodology
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework
  • Experience with a modern cloud data platform (e.g. Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Databricks)
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative, version-controlled development workflows
  • Strong communication skills, able to work confidently with both technical and business stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Power BI and semantic model development
  • Python/PySpark skills for data transformation, automation, or orchestration
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in an energy, utilities, or regulated industry
  • Exposure to data governance and cataloguing tools (e.g. Microsoft Purview)
  • Experience establishing data testing and CI/CD practices for analytics code
  • Semantic link labs library familiarity/ experience.
  • Azure Dev Ops (or similar) familiarity or experience
