Job summary

MetLife Ireland, with hubs in Dublin and Galway, seeks a data engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of data pipelines using modern cloud technologies. You will collaborate with business teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions and help advance our data platform.

The role emphasises Agile delivery, CI/CD, and governance, with exposure to Power BI and reporting, and opportunities to mentor engineers in a rapidly evolving environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6–10 years in data engineering or data warehousing.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams.
  • Strong SQL, data modelling, and data integration experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
  • Create ingestion frameworks for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Develop batch and near real-time data integration solutions.
  • Implement reusable data processing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Support data quality controls, lineage, governance, and security compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to platform automation.

The Opportunity

MetLife Ireland which is located in both Dublin and Galway City Centres. Dublin is our Operational Headquarters for our Europe Region. In addition, both Dublin and Galway have a significant number of our colleagues that are focused on supporting our broader EMEA and Global functions. They are homes to our Actuarial, Audit, Compliance, Finance, IT, Legal, Operations, Risk and Treasury Teams.

This role provides leadership in an AGILE & Dev Ops Methodology environment promoting teamwork and innovation. Design, develop, and implement solutions leveraging data assets and follow the full systems development lifecycle (SDLC). Completes development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; driving team meetings; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms. Work collaboratively with cross functional teams and delivers best in class customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
  • Build ingestion frameworks for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Develop batch and near real-time data integration solutions.
  • Implement reusable and configurable data processing frameworks.
  • Optimise data processing performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop solutions using modern cloud technologies such as: Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL / Synapse, Apache Spark / PySpark
  • Support migration and modernisation initiatives across the enterprise data platform.
  • Design dimensional and business-focused data models.
  • Develop curated and consumption-ready data assets.
  • Support semantic models and reporting platforms such as Power BI.
  • Collaborate with business teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
Data Quality & Governance
  • Implement automated data quality controls.
  • Support lineage, metadata, and data governance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise data security, privacy, and retention policies.
  • Participate in data reconciliation and root cause analysis activities.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code where applicable.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce engineering standards.
  • Improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and operational support.
  • Contribute to platform automation and self-service capabilities.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work directly with business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
  • Support project planning, estimation, and sprint execution.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and solution teams on strategic initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Experience
  • 6-10 years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or related fields.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications

The expected salary range for this position is €44900 - €59900 . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
