PT. Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia (UOI) seeks a Utility Improvement & Sustainability Assistant Manager to drive utility performance optimization, energy efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives across the plant in North Sumatra.

The role requires a chemical/process engineering background, 4+ years in utility operations, and hands-on experience with steam systems, power generation, and energy management, with a focus on decarbonization and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in managing utility operations within a chemical or process manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of chemical plant utility systems (steam, power generation, water) and safety protocols.
  • Experience with CMMS and energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., hazardous waste, emissions, water discharge).
  • Strong knowledge in Carbon emission reduction project and regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Utility improvement and sustainability activities.
  • Responsible for utility performances and cost.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in Utility area and keep safety and health in work area.
  • Ensure the all activity conducted by requirement of quality, food safety, feed safety, environment, occupational health and safety .
  • Manage utility‑related capital projects and upgrades.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives and sustainability practices.
  • Identify, develop, and manage decarbonization projects such as renewable energy integration, and emissions abatement.
  • Lead feasibility studies and financial evaluations for potential projects.
  • Develop and implement carbon reduction strategies aligned with corporate sustainability goals.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and carbon reporting standards.
  • Track and report on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Prepare sustainability reports and carbon disclosures for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Utility Improvemet & Sustainability Assistant Manager

The role is responsible for driving utility performance optimization, energy efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives, including carbon reduction, emissions management, decarbonization projects, renewable energy integration, and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate should have a strong utility background within a chemical or process manufacturing environment, combined with hands‑on experience in steam systems and power generation facilities, particularly steam turbines and/or gas turbines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.

4+ years of experience in managing utility operations within a chemical or process manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding of chemical plant utility systems (steam, power generation, water) and safety protocols.

Experience with CMMS and energy management systems.

Knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., hazardous waste, emissions, water discharge).

Strong knowledge in Carbon emission reduction project and regulation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Boiler Operation, or PMP.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or Responsible Care programs.
  • Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems for utility monitoring.

Responsible for Utility improvement and sustainability activities.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Production unit in utility in normal running.

Keep the performance of machine & equipment in Utility.

Evaluate cost production.

Prevent the probability of work accident & contaminate environment during the activity of process production.

Develop and finish improvement and sustainability program as per target

UOI is one of the biggest Olechemical factories in the world and has been built on an area of 18 hectares, located in Special Economic Zone (KEK) Sei Mangkei, Blok M, N, R, S Huta VI District of Bosar Maligas, Simalungun, North Sumatra, Indonesia, where 30% of equipment manufacturers using domestic products, the plant is designed to process CPKO (Crude Palm Kernel Oil) and 95% of the products will be used by Unilever factories around the world.
