Job summary

PT Kode Aplikasi Indonesia seeks an experienced Backend Engineering Manager to guide a growing backend team in Jakarta. You will conduct regular 1:1s, create personal development plans, lead hiring, and address conflicts while building a strong team culture.

You will own onboarding, delivery outcomes, and technical quality, including code reviews and planning. The role requires mentorship, strategic thinking, and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent practical experience.
• A hands-on background in backend development.
• Familiar with how modern engineering teams work.
• Experienced mentoring engineers with visible outcomes.
• Able to handle difficult conversations on performance, conflict and expectations.
• Communicates clearly in technical and non-technical sides.
• Makes decisions confidently under unclear information, has ambiguity and owns the tradeoffs.
• Directly managed 3+ engineers with formal reporting lines.
• Prior experience in a tech or product company with a structured engineering career ladder.
• Familiar with monitoring tools.
• Comfortable with project tracking tools (Jira or ClickUp), and team communication.
• Experienced work with databases.
• Proficient with development tools such as Git, Docker, and Linux/CLI.
• Have professional experience in infrastructure or deployment applications.
• Have experiences in multiple languages of technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead 1:1s focusing on growth, blockers, and direction.
• Own onboarding process for new members.
• Lead hiring process end to end.
• Resolve team conflicts and interpersonal issues.
• Establish team culture and systems.
• Own team delivery outcomes (scope, quality, timeline).
• Identify and manage delivery risks before blockers.
• Enforce engineering standards across the team.
• Maintain workload based on team capacity.
• Actively participate in code reviews and technical discussions to ensure quality.
• Unblock team members on technical issues.
• Represent team capacity and constraints in planning discussions.
