Job summary

Agoda is seeking an Engineering Manager within its Back End Engineering function in Jakarta to lead one or more teams responsible for scalable, fault-tolerant systems that power inventory, pricing, and payments. You will coach engineers, contribute code, and guide architecture while building a high-performance, globally distributed team.

The role requires deep experience in distributed systems, outsourcing of operational ownership, and a passion for technology.

Qualifications

• Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (Java/Scala/C#).
• Strong experience in distributed, scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
• Proficient in lower-level engineering (GC, threading).
• Good understanding of application security.
• Passionate about technology and the Internet.
• Must have worked in an successful agile development team.
• Must have run engineering teams before with 5+ direct reports.
• Able to operate autonomously with ownership and KPI setting.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on leadership: write and review code and coach engineers.
• Lead one or more engineering teams and influence system architecture.
• Do full-stack engineering across infrastructure to backend and data.
• Develop people and onboard new high performers.
