Job summary

ASTRO in Indonesia is seeking a Senior Category Manager (Food Staples) to lead growth and performance of our food staples category. You will manage supplier partnerships, drive negotiations, and support revenue and margin growth through pricing, promos, and category management.

Collaborate with Supply Chain, Planning, and cross-functional teams to ensure product availability, smooth purchasing processes, and strong category results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Sales, Communications or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years in Category Management, Buying, or Commercial roles in FMCG/retail/e‑commerce.
• Experience managing food staples or essential groceries (rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour).
• Strong supplier management and negotiation experience including pricing, margins, promotions, and trade terms.
• Understanding of retail operations: assortment planning, stock availability, promotions.
• Background in retail buying/merchandising or supplier-facing roles.
• Experience in offline retail is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers to drive revenue growth, margins, and promotions.
• Manage supplier relationships with documentation and updates.
• Coordinate end-to-end PO processes and supplier alignment.
• Plan and execute promotional activities with suppliers.
• Maintain supplier data in internal systems.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing supplier partnerships, leading commercial negotiations, and driving revenue and margin growth through competitive pricing, promotional strategies, and effective category management.

You will work closely with Supply Chain, Planning, and other cross‑functional teams to ensure product availability, smooth purchasing processes, and strong overall category performance. This role is ideal for someone with strong commercial and negotiation skills who understands retail operations and has hands‑on experience managing food staples or essential grocery categories.

Job Description:

• Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, focusing on revenue growth, COGS optimization, margin improvement, and promotional support.
• Manage and maintain supplier relationships, including handling key information, documentation, and updates related to suppliers.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth end‑to‑end purchase order (PO) processes and supplier alignment.
• Plan and execute promotional activities with suppliers, including pitching initiatives and securing promotional support.
• Maintain supplier‑related data within internal systems, including company information, points of contact, and relevant documentation.
• Monitor operational metrics such as order fulfillment, stock availability, and overall category performance.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business Management, Sales, Communication, or relevant fields.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Category Management, Buying, or Commercial roles within FMCG, retail, or e‑commerce industries, preferably with experience managing food staples or essential grocery categories, such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, and flour.
• Strong experience in supplier management and commercial negotiation, including pricing, margins, promotions, and trade terms.
• Solid understanding of retail operations, including assortment planning, stock availability, and promotional strategy.
• Prior experience in retail buying, merchandising, or supplier‑facing roles (e.g., Buyer, Category Manager, Retail Key Account Manager).
• Experience working with offline retail environments is a plus.
