We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Quality Assurance Laboratory Senior Manager to lead the overall Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, and Laboratory functions at our manufacturing facility.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in food manufacturing quality systems, laboratory management, microbiology, and sterilization/thermal processing, with experience preferably from Dairy, Food & Beverage, Pet Food, Feedmill, Pharmaceutical, or other high-risk food manufacturing industries.
This position will play a key role in strengthening product quality, food safety, laboratory capabilities, manufacturing process controls, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide strategic direction for Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, and Laboratory functions.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and food safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, GLP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Lead and strengthen laboratory operations, including microbiological, chemical, physical, and product quality testing.
- Oversee the development, validation, and implementation of laboratory testing methods and analytical procedures.
- Lead and ensure effective control of sterilization and thermal processing, including process parameters, validation, monitoring, and verification.
- Ensure effective control of microbiological risks, contamination risks, hygiene, sanitation, and food safety hazards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Oversee quality control of raw materials, production processes, in-process products, finished products, and packaging materials.
- Lead investigations related to quality deviations, microbiological contamination, product defects, and process failures through Root Cause Analysis and CAPA.
- Lead internal, external, customer, certification, and regulatory audits and ensure sustainable closure of audit findings.
- Analyze laboratory, quality, microbiological, and production data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Establish and monitor quality and food safety KPIs and provide strategic recommendations to Plant and Top Management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality, sterilization effectiveness, laboratory efficiency, process reliability, and food safety.
- Work closely with Production, R&D, Engineering, Procurement, Warehouse, Supply Chain, and other functions to resolve quality and process issues.
- Lead, coach, and develop QA, QC, Food Safety, and Laboratory teams and build strong technical competency within the organization.
- Develop technical standards, competency programs, and succession plans for the Quality organization.
- Ensure laboratory equipment, calibration, testing methods, chemicals, microbiological facilities, and laboratory waste are properly managed.
- Monitor regulatory developments, customer requirements, and industry best practices and ensure appropriate implementation within the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Animal Science, Fisheries, Agricultural Technology, or related fields.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, and/or Laboratory within a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a managerial or senior leadership position.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in Dairy / Milk Processing / Food & Beverage manufacturing.
- Experience in Pet Food, Feedmill, Pharmaceutical, or other food manufacturing industries is also highly relevant.
- Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in sterilization and thermal processing.
- Strong understanding of microbiology, food safety, contamination control, sanitation, and hygienic manufacturing practices.
- Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, GLP, CAPA, and Quality Management Systems.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory management, microbiological testing, chemical analysis, raw material testing, in-process control, and finished product testing.
- Proven experience in thermal process validation, sterilization monitoring, process verification, and troubleshooting.
- Experience leading internal, external, customer, certification, and regulatory audits.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Proven experience managing and developing large QA/QC/Laboratory teams.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Willing to work full-time on-site in Banyuasin / South Sumatra, Indonesia.
Preferred Skills
- Strong background in Dairy / Milk Processing industry, particularly in UHT, sterilization, pasteurization, thermal processing, or aseptic processing.
- Strong expertise in microbiology and food safety laboratory management.
- Experience in sterilization/thermal process validation and troubleshooting.
- Experience with laboratory analytical equipment and microbiological testing.
- Experience in implementing or maintaining FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000 systems.
- Certifications in HACCP, FSSC 22000, GMP, GLP, Internal Auditor, or Lead Auditor are an advantage.
- Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments with multiple production shifts.
