Job summary

Our Client in Indonesia is seeking a Principal Metallurgist to lead metallurgical optimisation across crushing, heap leaching, and related circuits. You will drive technical reviews and studies to boost performance while ensuring safety, quality and environmental standards are met.

You will manage metallurgical accounting systems and support OpEx/CapEx initiatives, mentoring technical teams and collaborating with operations and external stakeholders.

Job Description

Reporting to the Processing Technical Service Manager, the Principal Metallurgist will be responsible for:

• Leading metallurgical optimisation initiatives across crushing, heap leaching, thickening, filtration, and elution circuits.
• Driving technical reviews and metallurgical studies to improve plant performance and production outcomes.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality management standards.
• Managing metallurgical accounting systems and monitoring reagent and consumables usage.
• Developing operational budgets and supporting OpEx and CapEx optimisation initiatives.
• Leading metallurgical projects and laboratory activities while providing technical guidance to stakeholders.
• Collaborating closely with operations, maintenance, mining, HSE, and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
• Supporting capability development through coaching, training, and mentoring of technical teams.

The Successful Applicant

A Successful Principal Metallurgist Should Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing, preferably within gold processing and heap leaching operations.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership or managerial experience.
• Strong knowledge of gold processing operations and plant equipment.
• Proven experience with metallurgical accounting systems and advanced Excel capabilities.
• Familiarity with process control systems and PLC platforms such as Citect SCADA.
• Strong analytical, planning, reporting, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated leadership capability with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
