The Senior Process / Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of process engineering designs for mineral processing plants, materials handling systems, associated infrastructure, and utilities. The role involves defining, developing, and documenting process systems and ensuring their effective integration with mechanical equipment and plant infrastructure, in close coordination with Mechanical Engineers and other engineering disciplines. The position has significant involvement in fluid handling and pumping systems, slurry transportation, water systems, and associated balance-of-plant (BoP) infrastructure. The Senior Engineer will also support technical discussions with clients and contribute to engineering studies, evaluations, and technical reporting as part of the multidisciplinary project delivery team.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical process design, analysis, and optimisation for mining and mineral processing projects
- Develop and define process design criteria and design bases for mineral processing and related systems
- Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs), and support the development of P&IDs
- Perform mass balance, capacity calculations, hydraulic calculations, and process performance evaluations
- Define process requirements for plant throughput, recovery, product quality, and overall performance
- Evaluate metallurgical test work and test results and translate findings into practical process design requirements
- Define equipment duty requirements for mechanical systems, including pumps, tanks, materials handling equipment, and process units
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineers to develop equipment sizing and selection requirements, hydraulic and process calculations, system layouts and configurations, and equipment duty specifications
- Prepare and review engineering documentation, including Design Criteria and Design Basis documents, Process Descriptions, Process Flow Diagrams, Utility Flow Diagrams, Equipment Datasheets, and Technical Reports
- Provide engineering support throughout FEL, feasibility studies, FEED, Detailed Design, construction, and commissioning phases across multiple projects
