Job summary

PT SGS Indonesia seeks an experienced auditor to conduct independent, objective audits of plantation and palm-oil operations against RSPO, ISPO, and related schemes. You will deliver accurate audit reports and recommendations in accordance with scheme, accreditation, regulatory, and SGS requirements.

The role requires travel to client sites, thorough review of scope, plan audits, interview stakeholders, assess sustainability, legality, OHS, and social aspects, and produce complete records for

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Forestry, Environmental Science, Social Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or other discipline accepted by the scheme.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant field experience in plantation or palm-oil operations, sustainability, environmental or social management, OHS, HCV/HCS assessment, or certification auditing.
  • Current RSPO and/or ISPO auditor or lead-auditor qualification with required training and approvals completed before joining.
  • Knowledge of palm-oil operations, Indonesian regulations, sustainability certification, social compliance, biodiversity, and traceability.
  • Holds current auditor/lead-auditor qualification with approved scope, preferably RSPO/ISPO.
  • Verifiable audit log showing recent independent audit delivery in approved scope.
  • Completed mandatory scheme training, examinations, witnessed audits, and approvals before joining.
  • Able to plan, conduct, report, and close audits independently from deployment date.
  • Additional RSPO, ISPO, ISCC, HCV/HCS, or related competencies are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Review assignment scope, client profile, prior reports, certification status, standards, and audit duration.
  • Prepare audit plan, sampling approach, stakeholder interview plan, and document requests.
  • Confirm site readiness, logistics, team competence, confidentiality, and conflicts of interest.
  • Conduct opening/closing meetings and audit estates, smallholders, mills, and supply-chain activities.
  • Assess implementation of sustainability, legal, environmental, OHS, social, labor, human rights, land-use, biodiversity, and controls.
  • Evaluate HCV/HCS evidence, grievance mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, traceability, and records.
  • Interview management, workers, contractors, communities, and other stakeholders; triangulate data.
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconformities with references and evidence.
  • Prepare complete audit reports and support records for technical review.
  • Review corrective-action evidence and respond to technical-review queries.
  • Maintain audit records in SGS-approved systems.

Job description

To conduct independent, objective, and technically competent audits of plantation and palm-oil operations against applicable sustainability certification schemes, including RSPO, ISPO, and approved related scopes, and to deliver accurate audit reports and recommendations in accordance with scheme, accreditation, regulatory, and SGS requirements. The position is intended for an experienced, fully qualified, and currently approved auditor who can be independently deployed to chargeable client audits immediately upon joining, subject only to SGS onboarding, independence, integrity, safety, and system-access requirements.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review assignment scope, client profile, previous reports, certification status, applicable standards, legal requirements, and audit duration before the audit.

Prepare the audit plan, sampling approach, stakeholder interview plan, and document request based on the applicable plantation or palm-oil certification scheme.

Confirm site readiness, logistics, team competence, confidentiality, and potential conflict-of-interest matters before deployment.

Conduct opening and closing meetings and audit estates, smallholder arrangements, mills, and relevant supply-chain activities within the approved scope.

Assess implementation of sustainability, legal, environmental, occupational health and safety, social, labor, human-rights, land-use, biodiversity, and operational control requirements specified by the applicable scheme.

Evaluate HCV/HCS-related evidence, grievance mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, traceability, production records, and corrective-action implementation where these requirements apply to the assigned scope.

Interview management, workers, contractors, communities, and other relevant stakeholders, and triangulate interview results with documents and field observations.

Identify, document, and communicate nonconformities using clear requirement references and objective evidence.

Prepare complete, accurate, and timely audit reports and support records for technical review and certification decision.

Review client correction and corrective-action evidence within assigned authority and respond to technical-review queries.

Maintain audit records and upload required information in SGS-approved systems and repositories.

Maintain qualification, calibration, witness-audit, continual-learning, utilization, and reporting requirements for approved schemes.

PROFILE:

Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Forestry, Environmental Science, Social Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or another discipline accepted by the applicable scheme.

Minimum 5 years of relevant field experience in plantation or palm-oil operations, sustainability, environmental or social management, occupational health and safety, HCV/HCS assessment, human-rights activities, or certification auditing, supported by verifiable employment and audit records.

Current RSPO and/or ISPO auditor or lead-auditor qualification, with all required training, examinations, witness audits, and scheme or certification-body approvals already completed before joining.

Knowledge of palm-oil plantation and mill operations, applicable Indonesian regulatory requirements, sustainability certification, social compliance, biodiversity, and traceability.

Hold current auditor or lead-auditor qualification and documented approval for at least one commercially deployable plantation certification scope, preferably RSPO and/or ISPO.

Provide a verifiable audit log demonstrating recent independent audit delivery in the approved scheme and scope.

Completed all mandatory scheme training, examinations, witnessed audits, and approval requirements before joining.

Able to independently plan, conduct, report, and close audits in the approved scope from the date of deployment.

Additional RSPO, ISPO, ISCC, HCV/HCS, social, environmental, or occupational health and safety competencies are advantageous and may expand deployment opportunities.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and working proficiency in English, including audit reporting and client communication.

Strong auditing, interviewing, evidence evaluation, report writing, planning, and time-management skills.

High attention to technical accuracy, traceability, confidentiality, impartiality, and document control.

Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work in plantations, forests, mills, processing sites, warehouses, and other field locations as assigned.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to use SGS-approved audit, reporting, and document-management systems
