Job description

To conduct independent and technically competent audits of forest management, chain of custody, controlled wood, timber legality, and related forestry certification scopes, including approved FSC, PEFC, and SVLK assignments, and to deliver reliable audit conclusions in accordance with scheme, accreditation, regulatory, and SGS requirements. The position is intended for an experienced, fully qualified, and currently approved forestry auditor who can be independently deployed to chargeable client audits immediately upon joining, subject only to SGS onboarding, independence, integrity, safety, and system-access requirements.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review the approved scope, forest or facility profile, applicable forestry standard, previous audit results, legal requirements, maps, management plans, and sampling requirements.

Prepare audit plans and sampling for forest units, sites, contractors, product groups, supply chains, and stakeholder consultation as applicable.

Confirm audit-team competence, logistics, client readiness, safety controls, and conflict-of-interest status before the audit.

Conduct audits of forest management units, processing facilities, traders, and other certificate scope locations within the auditor’s approval.

Assess forest management planning, silviculture, harvesting, biodiversity conservation, environmental and social safeguards, worker safety, community or customary rights, and legal compliance where applicable.

Assess timber legality, material traceability, product-group controls, volume accounting, outsourcing, labeling or claims, and chain-of-custody controls where applicable.

Review maps and geographic data, field implementation, monitoring records, complaints, stakeholder feedback, corrective actions, and management-system controls.

Identify, document, and communicate nonconformities using clear requirement references and objective evidence.

Prepare complete and timely audit reports, checklists, sampling records, stakeholder records, and supporting evidence for technical review.

Review correction and corrective-action evidence within assigned authority and respond to technical-review queries.

Maintain accurate audit records in approved systems and support certification, surveillance, recertification, scope-extension, or special-audit processes as assigned.

Maintain required FSC, PEFC, SVLK, audit-technique, witness-audit, calibration, and continual-learning qualifications for approved scopes.

PROFILE

Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Forest Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Geoinformatics, Biology, Ecology, or another field accepted by the applicable scheme.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in forestry operations, forest management, timber processing, forestry supply chains, environmental or social management, timber legality, or certification auditing, supported by verifiable employment and audit records.

Current auditor or lead-auditor approval for at least one applicable FSC, PEFC, or SVLK scope, with required audit-technique training, scheme training, trainee audits, examinations, witness audits, and formal approval already completed before joining.

Knowledge of silviculture, biodiversity, geographic data, sustainable forest management, forestry legality, chain-of-custody traceability, environmental and social safeguards, and applicable Indonesian regulations.

Hold current auditor or lead-auditor qualification and documented approval for at least one commercially deployable forestry scope, such as FSC Forest Management, FSC Chain of Custody, PEFC, and/or SVLK.

Provide a verifiable audit log demonstrating recent independent audit delivery in the approved forestry scheme and scope.

Completed all mandatory audit-technique training, scheme training, examinations, trainee audits, witness audits, and approval requirements before joining.

Able to independently plan, conduct, report, and close audits for the approved forestry scope from the date of deployment.

Approval across multiple forestry schemes or scopes is advantageous because it increases deploy ability across Forest Management, Chain of Custody, timber legality, and related assignments.
