Job summary

Star Energy Geothermal in Indonesia is seeking a Lead Drilling Engineer to oversee the planning and execution of drilling operations, including well design and real-time monitoring. You will lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with contractors to ensure safety and efficiency across all phases of drilling.

The role requires a strong technical background, 10+ years in drilling, and IWCF/IADC Well Control certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a reputable university.
• Minimum 10 years of drilling operations experience, including field and engineering exposure.
• Strong understanding of drilling principles, equipment, and geothermal well operations.
• IWCF or IADC Well Control Certification (current or renewable).
• Ability to work in high-pressure, remote environments on a rotational basis.
• Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of drilling operations in line with approved programs and safety standards.
• Develop and review well designs, drilling programs, and contracting strategies.
• Monitor drilling parameters in real-time and provide technical troubleshooting support to rig-site teams.
• Coordinate and supervise service contractors (mud logging, cementing, directional drilling, etc.) to ensure operational efficiency.
• Prepare and review daily drilling reports (DDR), cost tracking, and end-of-well summaries.
• Analyze drilling performance and propose improvements to minimize non-productive time (NPT).
• Conduct and participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings on-site.
• Support equipment selection, logistics planning, and well control procedures.
• Document and communicate operational learnings and incident reports for continuous improvement.

The Lead Drilling Engineer is part of the Drilling Engineering Team within the Drilling & Completion Department. You will be responsible for both planning and execution stages, from well design and drilling program development to real-time monitoring and post-operation reviews. This position demands strong technical expertise, on-site leadership, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and contractors to ensure excellence in every phase of drilling operations.

• Develop and review well designs, drilling programs, and contracting strategies.

• Proven ability to work in high-pressure, demanding, and remote environments (rotational basis).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
• Familiarity with drilling software tools such as Landmark, WellView, or EDM is an advantage.
