The British School of Bali is seeking an enthusiastic Languages Specialist to introduce children to an additional language. The role welcomes applicants with a strong knowledge of any language other than English, and values passion for sharing language with primary pupils.

You will plan and deliver engaging lessons, foster confidence in speaking and writing, and contribute to the Mandarin curriculum development while aligning with safeguarding and school policies.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Languages Specialist to join our school and introduce children to an additional language. We are open to a range of languages and are keen to hear from individuals who have a strong knowledge of a language and a passion for sharing it with children.

We are open to candidates with expertise in any language other than English, including but not limited to Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and other languages.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver well-structured, engaging and differentiated language lessons for primary-aged pupils.

Foster a positive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages active participation and a genuine enthusiasm for language learning.

Support pupils in developing confidence and proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in the chosen specialist language.

Adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities and interests of individual pupils.

Make effective use of a variety of teaching resources, educational technology and interactive learning activities to enhance pupil engagement.

Incorporate appropriate aspects of Chinese culture and traditions to enrich pupils' understanding and appreciation of the language.

Promote high expectations of learning, behaviour and personal achievement.

Assessment and Pupil Progress

Monitor, assess and record pupils' progress using a range of appropriate assessment methods.

Provide timely, constructive and encouraging feedback to support individual learning.

Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and progress.

Prepare reports and contribute to parent consultations as required.

Identify pupils who may require additional support and work collaboratively with colleagues to implement appropriate strategies.

Classroom Environment and Behaviour

Establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment where every pupil feels valued.

Promote positive behaviour in accordance with the school's Behaviour Policy.

Encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience and confidence in their learning.

Collaboration and Communication

Work collaboratively with class teachers and colleagues to support cross-curricular learning opportunities.

Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, parent evenings and other school events as required.

Maintain positive and professional relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.

Contribute to the ongoing development of the Mandarin curriculum and teaching resources.

Professional Responsibilities

Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and confidentiality in all aspects of the role.

Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practice.

Comply with all school policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection.

Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post as requested by the Headteacher.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications

Teaching experience working with children

Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written language of choice.

A good standard of spoken and written English.

Experience

Experience of teaching a language to primary-aged children.

Experience of planning and delivering engaging and effective language lessons.

Experience within an international or bilingual school environment would be advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

Sound understanding of language acquisition for pupils and learners.

Ability to inspire, motivate and engage children of differing abilities.

Strong organisational and planning skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Competence in the effective use of educational technology to support teaching and learning.
