Inclusion Support Teacher (Secondary School)

The purpose of the Inclusion Support Teacher is to identify, assess, support, monitor and evaluate students' specific learning needs, in collaboration with other members of the School community involved with students, recognizing and valuing the diversity in our student population. The role ensures the wellbeing and protection of every child in the School's care, provides an additional and specialist resource to teachers, supporting differentiation for learners with identified support and education needs, and collaborates with teachers to implement support for students with additional/higher learning needs.

Key responsibilities

Provide testing for students nominated through the School's referral protocols

Make adjustments to curriculum or approaches to learning and teaching, taking into account the educational needs of individual students in consultation with the relevant subject leader

Provide push-in-class support, helping students be positive in their approach to new tasks, accompanying students in carrying out learning, helping students display appropriate classroom behaviour, and focusing on the development of subject-related language skills

Teach allocated intervention groups and lessons as directed

Provide one-on-one support where necessary

Support inclusion support students with the development of their organisation skills and other ATL skills

Develop Individual Plans for students, including teaching and learning strategies for the classroom and specialist teachers and shadow teachers

Provide detailed information for students transitioning to new schools, classes, years or stages

Organize special provisions for examinations including organising readers and writers for external and internal exams and liaising with MYP and DP coordinators

Provide direct, explicit and intensive teaching for students with specific needs through small groups, conducting a class or supporting within classrooms

About you

A minimum of Bachelor's degree from a related field

Able to deliver lessons and communicate effectively in English

Fully aware of the symbiotic relationship that exists between teaching and learning and pastoral care

Able to work across a variety of areas including all subjects, behaviour management, organisation and social skills development

Able to maintain a strong working knowledge of current best practice in Inclusion Support

Able to liaise with external professionals such as psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists in a confidential manner

Able to maintain detailed and accurate records of students receiving support

Able to meet all requirements in the Staff Handbook and complete all documentation as required and by the due date
