Job summary

Agoda is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one or more of our backend teams. The role blends hands-on coding with strong leadership to drive architectural decisions and ensure delivery of high‑quality, scalable systems across our inventory, pricing, and payments platforms.

The ideal candidate excels at building and mentoring teams, has a deep understanding of distributed architectures, and can align engineering practices with business goals in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Extremely proficient in at least 1 programming language (Java, Scala, C#).
• Strong experience in systems architecture – scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
• Proficient in lower level engineering (Garbage collection, context switching, threading).
• DevOps culture – Agility, Leanness, Automation, CI/CD.
• Good understanding of application security.
• Passionate about technology and the Internet.
• Must have worked in a successful agile development team.
• Must have run engineering teams before with 5+ direct reports.
• Able to operate autonomously: making decisions, setting KPIs, with a strong sense of ownership.
• Practices data driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on management with code review and coaching to engineers.
• Shape architecture and guide development of scalable systems.
• Do full stack engineering across infrastructure, client side, back end, performance and data.
• Develop people: inspire and onboard A-players into the business.
