Job summary

Wesco is seeking a Technician - Data Center to perform setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of data center equipment across project sites. You will handle server and storage equipment, diagnose connectivity issues, and engage vendor support for hardware fixes.

The role requires proactive documentation, inventory management, and adherence to incident/change processes. Travel up to 25% and a valid driver’s license are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's in IT Business or related field preferred.
• CCNA and CCNP are preferred.
• 2 years in an enterprise Data Center environment with strong knowledge of data center best practices.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting server hardware issues from major vendors.
• Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network connectivity issues (RJ45, LC/MPO).
• Good data cabling and patching understanding.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with multi-tasking ability.
• Fluent in English; valid driver's license; travel 0–25%.
• Field Service or Data Center Technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform weekly sweeps of server and storage equipment in the data center and analyze logs.
• Diagnose server/storage connectivity issues and perform basic network troubleshooting.
• Engage vendor support by opening cases and following up on hardware fixes.
• Coordinate with data center operations for break-and-fix processes and vendor escorts.
• Oversee RMA processes for components like rPDUs, switches, and field-replaceable units.
• Provide hardware support for installations, moves, and changes.
• Decommission IT equipment and manage inventory records with cycle counts.
• Update documentation for structured cabling and materials during installs.
• Manage capacity (space, power, cooling, and patch panel availability).
• Follow incident and change management processes and submit regular reports.
• Light traveling from site to site; assist with other duties.
