Job summary

Waruna Shipping Group invites an experienced Engine Trainer – Tanker to lead and deliver competency-based training for our tanker crews. You will plan, implement, and assess training programs, ensuring engine department readiness, safety compliance, and operational excellence across vessels.

The role requires deep tanker engine room knowledge, hands-on training delivery, and willingness to travel onboard ships for programs and assessments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of sailing experience as Chief Engineer on tanker vessels with minimum 10,000 DWT.
• Strong practical experience in tanker engine room operations.
• Preferably 2 years of shore-based experience in training or crew development.
• Previous experience as a Trainer is highly preferred.
• TOT IMO Model Course 6.09 certification is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Boiler operation, Fuel/Oil purification, engine room equipment and safety procedures.
• Excellent communication, presentation, coaching and interpersonal skills.
• Willing and able to travel and be assigned onboard vessels to conduct training.

• Conduct Crew Training Needs Analysis (TNA) based on operational requirements and crew competency
• Develop and maintain training plans, schedules, and training matrices for shipboard personnel
• Plan and implement crew familiarization programs for newly joined and existing crew
• Develop relevant training concepts, modules, and materials for engine department personnel
• Deliver technical and competency-based training onboard vessels
• Evaluate training effectiveness and crew performance, and recommend improvement actions.
• Prepare and manage training budgets
• Maintain accurate training records, documentation, and administration
• Monitor and follow up on crew development and competency improvement
• Conduct onboard visits and training assignments as required

We are looking for an experienced Engine Trainer – Tanker to support the continuous development and competency of our ship crews. This role will be responsible for planning, delivering, monitoring, and evaluating training programs to strengthen crew capabilities and ensure safe, efficient, and compliant vessel operations.

• Strong skills in Training Delivery, Training Management, Performance Management, and Organizational Development
• Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills
• Willing and able to travel and be assigned onboard vessels to conduct training
