Position Summary

Banyan Tree Escape Balak is seeking an experienced and passionate Director - Spa & Wellbeing to lead the Spa and Wellbeing function through the pre-opening phase and into full operations. Reporting to the General Manager, you will create the resort’s wellbeing offering from the ground up, shape the spa and wellness experience, and build a skilled and nurturing team that reflects the Banyan Tree Escape brand’s heritage in spa and wellness.

The successful candidate will be a hands‑on leader with strong knowledge of luxury spa and wellness operations, treatment development, and the Bali and Indonesian market, including the local therapist talent pool and wellness traditions. This role will drive excellence by delivering exceptional guest experiences, building a high‑performing team, and achieving strong commercial results.

Candidates with proven experience in luxury spa or resort pre‑openings in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

1. Lead and manage all Spa and Wellbeing functions, ensuring alignment with business goals, brand standards, and organizational strategies.
2. Develop the pre‑opening Spa and Wellbeing master plan, including organization structure, manning guides, recruitment timeline, and training schedule.
3. Work closely with the owner, project team, and designers to review spa facility design, treatment room layouts, equipment, and product selections from an operational perspective.
4. Develop the spa and wellbeing concept, including treatment menu, signature therapies, wellness programs, retreats, and packages, drawing on local Balinese and Indonesian wellness traditions.
5. Recruit, train, and certify therapists and spa team members to brand standards, and build strong local talent pipelines through partnerships with spa and hospitality schools.
6. Establish spa operating standards, procedures, and quality controls, ensuring consistent delivery of the Banyan Tree Spa experience.
7. Prepare and manage the pre‑opening and annual Spa budgets, forecasts, and pricing, ensuring profitability and effective cost control.
8. Drive spa revenue through retail, in‑resort promotions, packages, and partnerships with Sales and Marketing.
9. Manage product and equipment sourcing, inventory, supplier relationships, and retail merchandising.
10. Ensure the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and cleanliness, and comply with Indonesian health, safety, and licensing regulations for spa operations.
11. Establish guest feedback, service recovery, and quality assurance processes to continuously improve the guest experience.
12. Partner with Rooms, Food & Beverage, Recreation, and Engineering to integrate wellbeing experiences across the resort journey.
13. Coordinate with the Banyan Group regional and corporate spa teams to leverage brand programs, training, and product platforms.
14. Develop and maintain the spa booking, scheduling, and reporting systems to optimize therapist utilization and performance.
15. Provide regular Spa updates and reports to Regional Spa / Corporate and senior management.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Spa Management, or related fields. Therapist certification or wellness‑related qualifications are an advantage.
2. Minimum 8–10 years of progressive spa and wellness experience, with at least 3 years in a senior spa leadership role within luxury hotels, resorts, or destination spas.
3. Proven pre‑opening experience is strongly preferred, ideally in a luxury resort setting.
4. Strong experience in the Bali or Indonesian spa and hospitality market is highly preferred.
5. Strong knowledge of spa operations, treatment development, wellness trends, and product and retail management.
6. Experience in P&L management, budgeting, and cost control.
7. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build, coach, and inspire a team.
8. Passion for wellbeing and guest service, with a proactive, hands‑on, and guest‑focused mindset.
9. Proficiency in spa management and booking systems.
10. Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
11. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
