Banyan Group seeks an experienced Director - Engineering for Banyan Tree Escape Balak. Lead the Engineering function through pre-opening and into full operations, ensuring high standards, safety, and sustainable practices.

Collaborate with owners, project teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver a pre-opening program that meets brand standards. The role requires hands-on leadership with deep knowledge of luxury resort facilities, Indonesian regulations, and strong energy and resources

Position Summary

Banyan Tree Escape Balak is seeking an experienced and technically strong Director - Engineering to lead the Engineering function through the pre-opening phase and into full operations. Reporting to the General Manager, you will work closely with the owner, project team, consultants, and contractors to ensure the resort is built, commissioned, and handed over to the highest standards, while establishing a sustainable and efficient maintenance culture.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with deep knowledge of luxury resort facilities, building systems, and Indonesian regulatory requirements. This role will drive engineering excellence by safeguarding asset quality, ensuring guest and associate safety, optimizing energy and resource efficiency, and building a competent, motivated team.

Candidates with proven experience in luxury resort pre-openings or engineering leadership in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all Engineering functions, ensuring alignment with business goals and brand standards.
• Represent the operator during the construction and pre-opening phases, reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and equipment selections from an operational perspective.
• Coordinate with the project team, consultants, and contractors on snagging, testing, commissioning, and handover of all building systems and equipment.
• Develop the pre-opening Engineering master plan, including organization structure, manning guides, recruitment timeline, and training schedule.
• Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs, asset registers, spare parts inventory, and operating manuals.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of MEP systems, HVAC, water treatment, swimming pools, power generation, fire and life safety systems, and other resort infrastructure.
• Manage the upkeep of villas, public areas, landscaping infrastructure, and back-of-house facilities to maintain luxury standards.
• Drive energy, water, and waste management programs in line with the brand's sustainability commitments.
• Ensure full compliance with Indonesian building, environmental, and safety regulations, and obtain and maintain all required licenses, certifications, and permits (including SLF, fire safety, and lift and pressure vessel certifications).
• Develop and maintain occupational health and safety programs, emergency procedures, and regular drills.
• Prepare and control the pre-opening and annual Engineering budgets, including capital expenditure and utility costs.
• Manage contractors, vendors, and service agreements to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
• Recruit, train, and develop the Engineering team, building strong local talent and succession plans.
• Partner with Operations, Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Spa to respond promptly to guest and operational needs.
• Provide regular Engineering updates and reports to Regional Engineering / Corporate and senior management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role within luxury hotels or resorts.
• Proven pre-opening experience, including involvement in construction, commissioning, and handover, is strongly preferred.
• Strong experience in the Bali or Indonesian hospitality market is highly preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of MEP systems, building management systems, and resort infrastructure, including water, power, and wastewater systems.
• Sound understanding of Indonesian building codes, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate with owners, consultants, and contractors.
• Experience in budgeting, cost control, and vendor management.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on mindset.
• Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
