PT Visual Mitra Mandiri is building and developing a new business line in renewable energy, waste-to-energy, and industrial energy solutions.
The business is currently at an early stage of development. We are building our project pipeline, exploring suitable technologies and business models, establishing relationships with prospective clients, suppliers, EPC partners, investors, local governments, and other relevant stakeholders, while identifying real market problems that can be developed into technically and commercially viable energy projects.
We are looking for someone who can help build this business from the ground up, rather than simply manage an existing pipeline or execute projects that have already been developed.
This role is suited to someone who is proactive, entrepreneurial, hands-on, commercially minded, and comfortable taking initiative with broad direction.
Role Summary
The Business Development Manager will take ownership of building and developing the company’s renewable energy project pipeline from an early stage.
The successful candidate will be expected to actively originate opportunities, identify promising sectors and regions, engage prospective clients and stakeholders, understand their needs and business challenges, and develop opportunities until they are sufficiently mature for further technical and commercial evaluation.
This is a highly autonomous role. The successful candidate will not simply execute instructions or follow up on existing leads, but will be expected to exercise judgement in determining:
which opportunities are worth pursuing
which sectors and regions have genuine potential
which organisations and stakeholders should be approached
what information needs to be gathered
how an opportunity could be developed into a viable project; and
whether an opportunity should be pursued further, placed on hold, or discontinued.
The role will work directly with management and coordinate with technical teams, prospective clients, suppliers, EPC partners, business partners, government stakeholders, and other external parties.
Develop and execute the initial business development and project origination strategy for the company’s renewable energy business.
Identify and originate opportunities across renewable energy, waste-to-energy, biomass, biogas, solar energy, energy efficiency, industrial energy solutions, and other relevant sectors.
Conduct market research and build a structured pipeline of target sectors, regions, prospective clients, industrial companies, local governments, suppliers, EPC partners, investors, off-takers, consultants, feedstock owners, and other relevant stakeholders.
Proactively approach prospective clients and stakeholders, arrange meetings, manage follow-ups, and build long-term business relationships.
Conduct meetings, site visits, and field assessments to understand client needs, energy requirements, operating conditions, cost structures, waste or feedstock availability, and other business or operational challenges that may be developed into project opportunities.
Assess potential opportunities and develop opportunity briefs, preliminary business cases, project concepts, commercial structures, and recommended next steps, including initial consideration of CAPEX, OPEX, revenue streams, project costs, payback periods, potential savings, margins, and commercial risks.
Develop appropriate business models and potential partnership structures for individual project opportunities.
Manage commercial engagement with technology suppliers, EPC partners, and technical partners, including proposals, pricing, commercial terms, project scope, warranties, after-sales support, and relevant project references.
Coordinate with internal or external technical teams where further technical screening or assessment is required.
Prepare and present business proposals, pitch decks, project introductions, commercial summaries, meeting documentation, and other materials required to progress opportunities.
Drive opportunities through the development process, from initial lead and qualification through data collection, site assessment, technical screening, proposal, negotiation, MoU/LOI, and project securing.
Maintain a disciplined project pipeline and provide management with clear recommendations on which opportunities should be prioritised, developed further, placed on hold, or discontinued.
Help establish the systems, databases, workflows, and business development processes required to support the long-term growth of the company’s renewable energy business.
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Economics, Engineering, Energy, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or another relevant field.
Preferably at least 5 years of relevant experience in business development, project development, B2B industrial solutions, sales engineering, renewable energy, EPC, infrastructure, utilities, waste management, consulting, or a related sector.
Experience in project-based or solution-based business development is strongly preferred over purely transactional sales.
Proven ability to independently identify, approach, and develop new business opportunities rather than relying solely on inbound leads or existing customers.
Strong ability to conduct market research, identify relevant stakeholders, understand prospective client needs, and translate business problems into potential project opportunities.
Good commercial judgement and understanding of fundamental concepts such as CAPEX, OPEX, project costs, revenue streams, payback periods, supplier terms, pricing, and project margins.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess opportunities and make sound recommendations even when information is incomplete.
Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to prepare clear proposals, pitch decks, business summaries, and other commercial documents.
Professional communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and sufficient English proficiency for business communication with suppliers and international partners.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, PowerPoint/Google Slides, and basic tools for project and pipeline management.
Willingness to travel for meetings, site visits, and project development activities across Indonesia when required.
High ownership and self-direction: able to work independently with broad direction and determine appropriate next steps without waiting for detailed instructions.
Entrepreneurial and hands-on mindset: comfortable building a business from an early stage and working across market research, outreach, meetings, site visits, opportunity assessment, and proposal development.
Strong commercial judgement: able to distinguish between an interesting idea and an opportunity with genuine business potential.
Curiosity and problem-solving ability: comfortable entering new sectors, regions, and unfamiliar problem areas to identify opportunities and understand how they may be addressed.
Strong prioritisation and execution discipline: able to focus resources on the most promising opportunities while maintaining structured follow-up, documentation, and pipeline management.
Comfort with ambiguity: able to operate effectively in an early-stage environment where information, systems, project pipelines, and internal processes are still being developed.
Success in this role will be demonstrated by the ability to:
Build a credible and growing pipeline of qualified renewable energy opportunities.
Identify sectors, regions, prospective clients, and real business problems with genuine project potential.
Establish productive relationships with prospective clients, suppliers, business partners, and relevant stakeholders.
Progress selected opportunities into site assessments, project concepts, proposals, negotiations, partnerships, or project development.
Provide management with clear, commercially sound recommendations on which opportunities should be pursued and which should not.
Help establish a repeatable business development process that supports the future growth of PT Visual Mitra Mandiri’s renewable energy business.
