Job summary

BOS Foundation seeks a BMP Specialist to develop and promote biodiversity conservation practices across forestry, plantation, and mining concessions in Indonesia. You will work with private sector partners, government agencies, and project teams to integrate biodiversity management into operations and support the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Biology, Natural Resources Conservation, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or related discipline.
• 2–5 years of professional biodiversity conservation experience.
• Experience developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating technical guidelines, standards, or SOPs.
• Strong ability to analyze field data, prepare technical reports, and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve program effectiveness.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with data analysis/management software is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills with experience working with communities, government, private sector, and other stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel extensively to BOS Foundation operational areas and be assigned to any area.

Responsibilities

• Develop practical approaches, methodologies, and technical guidelines for biodiversity management within forestry, plantation, and mining concession areas.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with private sector concession holders to strengthen biodiversity conservation initiatives.
• Serve as the primary liaison between the project and concession holders in implementing biodiversity management programs.
• Design and deliver capacity-building activities for concession holders on biodiversity management, including HCV identification and documentation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and biodiversity management planning.
• Facilitate the integration of biodiversity management plans into the operational business processes of concession holders.
• Monitor the implementation of biodiversity management activities in collaboration with concession holders and provide technical recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with the Project Coordinator and Project Leader to align biodiversity management plans within concession areas with the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.
• Prepare and submit periodic technical and progress reports through the Project Coordinator to the Project Leader.

JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role

The Best Management Practice (BMP) Specialist is responsible for developing and promoting best management practices for biodiversity conservation across forestry, plantation, and mining concession areas. Working closely with private sector partners, government agencies, and project teams, the Specialist will support the integration of biodiversity management into operational business processes while strengthening stakeholder capacity and contributing to the development of the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.

This position reports to the Project Coordinator and will work closely with the Project Leader and relevant project partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop practical approaches, methodologies, and technical guidelines for biodiversity management within forestry, plantation, and mining concession areas.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with private sector concession holders to strengthen biodiversity conservation initiatives.
• Serve as the primary liaison between the project and concession holders in implementing biodiversity management programs.
• Design and deliver capacity-building activities for concession holders on biodiversity management, including High Conservation Value (HCV) identification and documentation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and biodiversity management planning.
• Facilitate the integration of biodiversity management plans into the operational business processes of concession holders.
• Monitor the implementation of biodiversity management activities in collaboration with concession holders and provide technical recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with the Project Coordinator and Project Leader to align biodiversity management plans within concession areas with the broader development of the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.
• Prepare and submit periodic technical and progress reports through the Project Coordinator to the Project Leader.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Biology, Natural Resources Conservation, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or another relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, or the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMP).
• Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating technical guidelines, standards, or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Strong ability to analyze field data, prepare technical reports, and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve program effectiveness.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with data analysis and data management software is considered an advantage.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working collaboratively with local communities, government institutions, private sector partners, and other stakeholders.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Willingness to travel extensively to all BOS Foundation operational areas, including forestry, plantation, and mining concession sites.
• Willingness to be assigned to any BOS Foundation operational area as required.
• Good written and spoken English communication skills.
