Job summary

Orangutan is seeking a Project Officer to support biodiversity conservation initiatives in East Kalimantan. You will develop work plans, coordinate activities, and engage beneficiaries to ensure participatory implementation.

You will lead community organizing, prepare progress reports, and provide technical support on FPIC processes, village planning, and documentation, traveling as required and based at Samboja Lestari.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 1–3 years of project or program management experience.
  • Ability to develop work plans, schedules and reports.
  • Strong coordination and interpersonal skills with teams and partners.
  • Experience in project administration, documentation, and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel and based at Samboja Lestari, East Kalimantan, Indonesia; English proficiency.

Job description

Under the supervision of and in coordination with the Project Coordinator, the Project Officer will:

  • Develop routine project work plans and budgets.
  • Coordinate and ensure the implementation of project activities in accordance with established timelines, targets, and expected outcomes.
  • Engage and communicate with project beneficiaries and stakeholders to ensure project activities are implemented in a participatory manner with active stakeholder involvement.
  • Lead community organizing initiatives to promote biodiversity conservation values and community empowerment, which are the core objectives of the project.
  • Prepare and submit regular project implementation and progress reports to the Project Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the development of multi-stakeholder forums supporting the management of the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.
  • Provide technical support to project staff in implementing thematic activities, including Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes, village spatial planning, community group business planning, and other project-related activities.
  • Provide technical support to project staff in biodiversity identification and documentation within areas designated as part of the Nusantara Biodiversity Corridor.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Communications, Forestry, Environmental Science, Public Administration, or another relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of professional experience in project or program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop work plans, activity schedules, and project implementation reports.
  • Strong coordination and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Experience in project administration, including documentation, record management, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of project budgeting and budget preparation is considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
  • Strong communication, coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, responsible, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork as required by the project.
  • Willingness to be based at Samboja Lestari, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
