Job summary

Kulu in Bali is seeking a Backend/Infrastructure Engineer to own the systems everything else runs on: our AWS environments, deployments, CI/CD and observability — and then to build something more ambitious: Simu, our agent simulation and evaluation system, which will let us test AI agent behaviour automatically before it ever reaches a user. This is not a ticket-queue DevOps role.

Qualifications

• Proven production Python experience.
• Real production AWS experience: you have owned deployed systems.
• Solid CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions) and containers (Docker).
• Infrastructure-as-code habits and pragmatism in automation.
• High agency and ownership; you are the go-to person for reliability.

Responsibilities

• Infrastructure & deployment ownership — manage AWS dev/staging/production end to end.
• CI/CD & release engineering — fast, reversible releases with feature flags.
• Observability — logging, metrics, alerting across the stack; enable fast debugging.
• Security & compliance engineering — work with CTO on data retention and privacy commitments.
• Developer experience — keep dev/test tooling in a state that speeds shipping.
