Job summary

BBVA Hong Kong is seeking an experienced Senior Credit Risk professional to govern the Asia Credit Committee and support informed decision-making with strong documentation and risk framework adherence.

You will complement the challenger role, monitor deal and portfolio risk, and coordinate with Risk Teams to ensure BBVA’s risk appetite is upheld across Asia. Fluency in English is required; Mandarin is a plus.

Qualifications

• University degree in Business Administration, Finance or related discipline.
• 10 years relevant experience in financial sector, of which at least 7 years in corporate credit risk assessment.
• Good knowledge in the full range of risks faced in banking.
• Excellent credit analysis, report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Verify credit proposals meet documentation and compliance standards before submission.
• Organize Asia Credit Committee: agendas, minutes, materials, and decisions recording.
• Review risk proposals per BBVA risk appetite and procedures.
• Ensure traceability of decision-making alignment.
• Participate in Asia Risk Committees as independent challenger.
• Clarify terms and raise questions to upscale proposals.
• Review and endorse risk policies to support strategy and compliance.
• Prepare periodic Risk Internal Control reports.
• Contribute to risk management strategies.

About the job:

Job Purpose & Objectives

• - Technical Secretariat: Ensure the effective governance of the Asia Credit Committee by supporting informed and structured decision‑making, maintaining proper documentation, and upholding compliance with internal risk frameworks.
• - Complement the Challenger role in Asia Credit Committee.
• - Maintain credit quality by following up with Risk Teams on their tasks, procedures and decisions.
• - Monitor deal level, client level and portfolio level attributes and assure their alignment with the risk management framework of BBVA.

Key Responsibilites

• - Verify that credit proposals meet minimum documentation and compliance standards prior to Committee submission.
• - Organize the Asia Credit Committee, including agenda and minutes preparation, coordination of materials, and recording of decisions in the systems.
• - Review risk proposals, making sure they are aligned with BBVA risk appetite framework and consistent with BBVA procedures, including sectorial frameworks and product guidelines.
• - Guarantee the traceability of the decision‑making process alignment.
• - Actively participate in Asia Risk Committees, enforcing this challenger independent role on the proposals presented at the committees.
• - This role is expected to upscale internally proposals, and questions on them, if any of their terms or alignment is not clear.
• - Reviewing and endorsing risk policies and guidelines, facilitating the implementation of business strategies and achieving the statutory regulations
• - Prepare periodic reporting on the Risk Internal Control activity.
• - Helping perform and develop the strategies of Risk Management

Job Specifications

Qualification & Experience

• - University degree in Business Administration, Finance or related discipline.
• - 10 years relevant experience in financial sector, of which at least 7 years in corporate credit risk assessment.
• - Good knowledge in the full range of risks faced in banking
• - Excellent credit analysis, report writing and presentation skills

Language

• - Strong communication skills in English.
• - Additional languages (eg Spanish) will be an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

• - PC literacy (Microsoft Office and Google Suite apps)
• - Understanding of Databases structures

• - Fluency in written and spoken English
• - Other Asian languages such as Mandarin an added advantage.
