Job summary

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) invites applications for a Project Assistant in the Division of Life Science to support daily operations of the State Key Laboratory of Nervous System Disorders. You will help maintain wet lab workflows, prepare reagents, manage samples, and assist researchers with routine tasks to ensure safe, smooth laboratory operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma level qualification or above (HKDSE or equivalent) required.
• On-the-job training will be provided; prior lab experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Basic laboratory literacy including solution prep, measurements, autoclave operation and aseptic technique is an advantage.
• Careful, responsible and diligent working habits with close attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proactive, service-minded attitude.

Responsibilities

• Prepare buffers, culture media and stock solutions; weigh and dilute reagents; label and date preparations.
• Carry out glassware washing, autoclaving and equipment cleaning; keep benches and hoods clean and organised.
• Monitor and record operation of shared equipment; report faults and coordinate maintenance with vendors.
• Manage laboratory supplies: inventory tracking, reordering, expiry checks, and proper storage of materials.
• Cell culture support.
• Label, aliquot and store samples; maintain freezer logs and storage records.
• Assist with routine data entry, image/file organization and preparation of figures/slides for meetings.
• Support safety inspections and compliance.
