Job summary

dss+ is seeking an experienced freelance Subject Matter Expert in underground geotechnical engineering and Ground Control to support a major mining expansion project. You will review procedures, identify risks, and provide practical recommendations aligned with industry leading practices.

This project-based advisory role focuses on technical review, risk identification, and procedure improvement rather than full-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in geotechnical engineering or Ground Control.
• Preferably 7+ years in underground mining operations.
• Experience with ground support systems and TARPs.

Responsibilities

• Review Ground Control procedures, standards, and management plans.
• Assess geotechnical inspection procedures and underground excavation management.
• Review excavation classification, clearance, and re-entry criteria.
• Evaluate ground support design, installation, verification, and maintenance.
• Assess rock bolts, cable bolts, mesh, and shotcrete procedures.
• Review scaling and loose-rock management and unsupported ground controls.
• Evaluate Ground Control monitoring and hazard reporting.
• Support TARPs development and validation.
• Identify gaps between engineering requirements and field execution.
