Job summary

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is seeking a senior data scientist to own end-to-end development and deployment of probabilistic and ML models for real-time pricing, player risk and wagering products.

You will design experiments, perform large-scale data analysis, and build adaptive models that respond to betting patterns and market shifts. Strong ML framework experience and English/Chinese communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics or related field.
• ≥5 years' experience in modelling/analysis or statistics using statistical, AI or OR techniques.
• Strong command of statistical analysis, ML and predictive modelling with production delivery.
• Proficiency in Python and/or R, plus SQL.
• Experience with modern ML frameworks (scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, TensorFlow) and model deployment/monitoring.
• Experience wrangling data from multiple sources in large on-premise environments.
• Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Interest in sports (horse racing, football) and gaming; knowledge of gaming industry.
• Excellent written (English and Chinese) and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to integrity, responsible gambling and data privacy.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end development, productionisation and monitoring of probabilistic and ML models powering real-time pricing, risk and wagering products.
• Design and run experiments (A/B tests, backtests) to evaluate new products and pricing strategies and quantify impact.
• Perform exploratory data analysis and statistical modelling on large-scale wagering data to uncover trends and insights.
• Build predictive models that adapt to customer betting patterns and market movements in real time.
• Apply Generative AI / large language models where value is added.
• Partner with data engineers to build reliable data pipelines and embed MLOps across the model lifecycle.
• Collaborate with trading, product and business stakeholders to translate problems into data science solutions.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Handle wagering and customer data in line with data governance and Responsible Gambling requirements.
