Job description

(Senior) Quantitative Scientist (Wagering)

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (\"the Club\") is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division

The Sports Business Division is central to the Club's overall aspiration to become a globally recognised sports and entertainment brand, with world-class horse racing at its core. The Division's overarching focus is to deliver sustainable growth of the Club's sports business, deepen customer engagement, and contribute to position the Club as a leading global sports and entertainment brand to enable its commitment to social betterment. Its strategy is delivered through three pillars: broadening the fan base and prospecting new customers, growing the sports wagering business, and building the Club's brand and commercialising its assets.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Trading Manager (Trading and Player Risk), the job holder owns the end-to-end delivery of quantitative, statistical and machine learning models that power the Club's sports wagering business — from exploration and feature engineering through to production deployment. The role turns large-scale wagering data into real-time pricing, player risk and customer insights, building probabilistic models that adapt to customer betting patterns and market movements.

The primary focus is to drive measurable business impact by expanding the portfolio of betting products and markets and continuously improving the commercial performance of existing models, within the Club's Responsible Gambling framework.

  • Apply Generative AI / large language models and modern machine learning techniques where they add business value

  • Partner with data engineers to build reliable data pipelines and embed MLOps practices (version control, automated checks, monitoring, retraining) across the model lifecycle

  • Collaborate with trading, product and business stakeholders to translate business problems into data science solutions

  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Handle wagering and customer data in line with the Club's data governance, privacy and Responsible Gambling requirements, and comply with all stipulated legal requirements pertaining to wagering, thereby protecting the integrity of the Club's business
