Reports to: M&BD Manager, Asia (Hong Kong based)
Overview of role: This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Simmons & Simmons Asia Marketing & Business Development team. Working closely with lawyers and M&BD colleagues across the region, you will help drive the firm's marketing and business development strategy, supporting growth across key markets, sectors and practices. Your strategic insight, commercial awareness and proactive approach will play an important role in shaping the continued success of the region. We are seeking an experienced M&BD professional who thrives in a dynamic, international environment and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes as part of a collaborative and high-performing team. This is a broad role that requires both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery. The ability to balance long-term planning with day-to-day execution is essential. The role offers significant exposure to senior partners and leadership across the region, providing the opportunity to influence strategic initiatives and contribute to the firm's growth ambitions in Asia.
The Team: You will be part of a collaborative Asia M&BD team of six professionals based across multiple locations in the region. The team works closely with lawyers, clients and business services colleagues to support the firm's strategic priorities, enhance client relationships and drive business growth throughout APAC.
Main Duties & Responsibilities to be listed here:
- Practice and market expertise: Act as a key source of knowledge within the Asia M&BD team on the firm's practices, sectors, legal services and market positioning across the region.
- Strategic marketing and business development: Develop and deliver high-quality, targeted marketing and business development initiatives, including integrated campaigns, thought leadership, market positioning activities, client insights and strategic communications aligned to regional priorities.
- Client relationship management: Lead and support the Asia-based Key Client Programme in partnership with the international Client Programme team. Provide strategic advice, support and best practice guidance to fee earners on client relationship management and growth opportunities.
- Market intelligence and opportunity development: Build market knowledge and commercial insight to identify new business opportunities, strengthen market positioning and support revenue growth. Promote the firm's profile through events, conferences, client seminars, industry networks and PR opportunities.
- Pitches and proposals: Manage the end-to-end pitch and tender process, including opportunity assessment, go/no-go recommendations, kick-off meetings, project management, content development, stakeholder coordination and submission of high-quality proposals for local and multi-jurisdictional opportunities.
- Legal directories and awards: Manage the end-to-end process for legal directory and award submissions, including Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR1000 and ALB, coordinating stakeholders, drafting content, gathering supporting information and ensuring timely, high-quality submissions.
- Regional collaboration: Foster collaboration across Asia offices to support a coordinated market approach and consistent client experience. Encourage knowledge sharing and cross-selling opportunities across practices, sectors and jurisdictions.
- Internal stakeholder management: Build trusted relationships with partners, associates, business services teams and global M&BD colleagues to support strategic business development objectives, share best practice and identify opportunities for cross-selling and international clientdevelopment.
- Marketing operations management: Work closely with the M&BD Operations team, briefing colleagues on repeatable activities, managing workflow allocation, overseeing quality assurance and driving continuous process improvement.
- People development: Provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring and support to junior team members, contributing to the development and success of the wider Asia M&BD team.
- Practice leadership support: Partner closely with the relevant Business Development Relationship Holder (BDRH) and practice leaders to develop and deliver strategic marketing and business development plans aligned with practice and firm priorities.
- External relationships: Build and maintain relationships with event organisers, industry associations, trade bodies, media contacts and other external stakeholders to enhance the firm's profile and support business development objectives.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in marketing and/or business development, including at least 12 months' experience within a professional services, legal or financial services environment.
- Experience supporting senior stakeholders and managing multiple marketing and business development initiatives simultaneously.
- Demonstrated experience working in a regional and/or international business environment.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring or coordinating junior team members would be advantageous.
Knowledge & technical skills:
- Experience managing marketing and business development budgets.
- Experience delivering client events, seminars, webinars and thought leadership programmes.
- Experience coordinating legal directory and award submissions.
- Experience managing the end-to-end pitch and proposal process.
- Strong written Chinese language skills, with the ability to translate, localise and adapt marketing and business development materials.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to manage marketing and business development activities independently and proactively.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to identify business development opportunities and support growth initiatives.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and business development technologies, including InterAction.
- Strong understanding of the Hong Kong and Greater China legal and business market.
- Experience in digital marketing, social media and public relations would be advantageous.
- Understanding of the practical application of AI and large language models (LLMs) within a marketing and business development environment.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and maintain momentum across projects.
- Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, processes and service delivery.
