About The Role

This is an individual contributor role and while it is a fully remote role, you will ideally be based out of Hong Kong or Singapore. We are looking for an Event Marketing Lead to help us build and grow a world‑class events engine that brings more Shopify to the world. As an Event Marketing Lead - APAC, you will be responsible for developing and executing innovative event marketing strategies that drive brand awareness, generate leads, and ultimately increase sales in the region. You will have a deep understanding of the event landscape and will be able to identify and leverage opportunities that resonate with our target audience. This role requires you to be an excellent Event Marketer with the ability to identify and focus on priority high‑leverage initiatives. You have a proven track record of building and managing events across multiple countries, with a laser focus on driving impactful commercial outcomes. You enjoy and thrive working in a cross‑functional team, and managing multiple internal and external stakeholders - including C‑suite - towards a common goal. You will be responsible for building a calendar of events to drive new and accelerate existing business, in collaboration with your primary stakeholders; sales and regional marketing (+ partnerships and partner marketing). You’ll make this happen by considering all stages of the funnel, sales segments and producing events that will help drive new and nurture Shopify Plus and enterprise leads into/through the sales funnel ultimately impacting revenue goals. You’ll plan, execute and optimise events (through both Shopify owned and sponsored events, e.g. trade shows and industry events) as part of APAC marketing campaigns, predominantly within the Greater China Region (GCR) and South East Asia (SEA). This is an individual contributor role as part of the wider APAC event marketing team (which has two other event marketers based in Japan and Australia) that will also work closely with the APAC revenue marketing and global event marketing team to bring programming to life.

This role requires frequent travel throughout APAC and occasionally internationally.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Develop and execute the event marketing strategy for GCR and SEA: This includes defining target audiences, identifying relevant events, developing engaging activations, and managing budgets
  • Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders and leadership to set goals, execute those plans and then evaluate performance to drive improvement over time
  • Build and manage event campaign program scopes of work, resources, budget, contracts, and timelines
  • Own end‑to‑end execution for event marketing activities and measure effectiveness of events to improve ROI
  • Leverage a deep understanding of internal and external market positioning and our target audiences to make event decisions
  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders and partners including industry/show organizers, agencies and vendors
  • Assemble the right stakeholders and resources for each opportunity and foster collaboration and excellence with internal teams, agencies and vendors
  • Contribute to overall APAC marketing planning: partner with cross‑functional team leaders to drive program strategies, scalable approaches, and success criteria metrics while maintaining accuracy and accountability of regional budget, evaluate results against goals, deliver quarterly reporting, and make recommendations to senior leadership for Event Marketing
Requirements
  • A deep knowledge of the China / Greater China eCommerce landscape, media channels and business and cultural practices is essential. Fluency in business Mandarin and English will be strongly regarded.
  • A passion for event marketing and production and a willingness to get hands‑on in execution
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful event marketing strategies
  • Ability to zoom in and out between big picture strategic planning and being detail obsessed to ensure craft excellence
  • Experience producing and leading successful events to reach commercial targets
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong project management and communication skills with a proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, at all levels in different geographies
  • You’ve successfully produced a wide range of events (from trade shows to activations to conferences to white glove experiences) for a variety of audiences in terms of complexity, scale and design and can move effortlessly between big picture and intricate details
  • You are an empathetic leader who knows how to motivate teams and mentor individuals to contribute to their highest potential
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills while being able to stay focused on the big picture and pay attention to details
  • Proven ability to lead and execute on projects that involve alignment and collaboration across disciplines and crafts
  • A resourceful attitude that can proactively seek out information to influence action
  • Ability to thrive in uncertainty, resolve ambiguity and think quickly on your feet
  • You are passionate and knowledgeable about break‑through experience design and emerging event technology
  • You love working cross‑functionally across different teams, building and maintaining relationships across the organization to drive results
  • You are an intellectually curious self‑starter who is not afraid to ask questions and use answers to bring clarity and direction to your greater team
About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries. This is life‑defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before You Apply, Consider If You Can
  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Put AI agents and tools to work on the tasks they're built for, and focus on the work only humans can do
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital‑first for your daily work
