Job summary

The D. H. Chen Foundation is a Hong Kong philanthropic trust seeking a strategic advisor within the Institute of Impact Strategy to help social purpose organisations translate ideas into sustainable growth. You will analyse opportunities, design priorities, and mobilise resources to increase impact.

The role combines analytical work with hands-on implementation, focusing on governance, fundraising, and measurement to advance meaningful social outcomes in Hong Kong's social good sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above with at least 6 years of professional experience in related fields.
• Experience in philanthropy, nonprofit management, or social sector is advantageous.

• Excellent written and verbal English and Chinese communication.

Responsibilities

• Partner with social purpose organisations to assess readiness for impact growth.

The D. H. Chen Foundation is a Hong Kong family philanthropic trust established in 1970 by Dr. Din Hwa Chen, the founder of Nan Fung Group, an ardent philanthropist and a devout Buddhist. Purpose

We are looking for a philanthropic talent who is interested in helping social purpose organisations translate promising ideas and validated impact into sustainable pathways for growth.

This role – as part of the Institute of Impact Strategy team – will work to support social purpose organisations as they face barriers in moving from strategy to implementation, by accessing the right capabilities & resources and adapting their organisations and programmes for the next stages of development. The main objectives will be to provide consultancy to organisations in analysing and establishing strategic priorities, and to help turn said priorities into practical action by providing implementation support and facilitating the mobilisation of needed resources, in order to better position organisations and their initiatives towards generating greater impact.

This role is suited for someone who is analytical yet action-oriented, comfortable working through complexity, understanding concepts yet capable to be hands‑on in implementation and motivated by helping organisations make meaningful progress towards their intended endgames.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory & Impact Scaling

• Partner with social purpose organisations to assess organisational, programme and ecosystem readiness for impact growth, and support the development of strategic priorities, scaling pathways and long‑term sustainability plans.
• Facilitate structured diagnostic and planning processes to help organisations clarify end goals, identify barriers to growth, and translate strategic recommendations into actionable implementation roadmaps.
• Support the identification, assessment and acceleration of promising social solutions by applying impact scaling, organisational development and venture‑building approaches to increase their effectiveness, reach and sustainability.
• Work closely with partnering organisations to translate strategic recommendations into implementation priorities, milestones, workplans and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor progress, identify barriers and resource constraints, and support partners in adapting plans and approaches in response to changing circumstances.
• Strengthen organisational and programme capabilities across areas such as leadership, governance, talent development, fundraising, financial sustainability, impact measurement, communications and operational effectiveness.
• Identify, engage and coordinate expertise, partnerships, funding opportunities and implementation resources that can accelerate organisational and programme development.
• Map ecosystem actors, capabilities and assets to uncover opportunities for collaboration, capability sharing and collective action across the social good sector.
• Mobilise relevant Foundation assets, networks and strategic partnerships to support selected organisations and initiatives in achieving their intended impact.
• Contribute to the continuous development, testing, validation and refinement of the Amplifying Impact Model (AIM), including the development of frameworks, tools, methodologies and practical resources.
• Document recurring implementation challenges, successful best practices and emerging insights from partner engagements to strengthen IIS's methodologies and consulting approaches.

Knowledge Sharing & Sector Building

• Develop case studies, learning products and sector resources that promote effective impact scaling, organisational sustainability and strategic development within the social good sector.
• Facilitate learning exchanges, peer collaboration and knowledge‑sharing initiatives that strengthen relationships, trust and collective capability among social purpose organisations.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant discipline, with at least 6 years of professional experience of which 2 years of project management experience. Experience in philanthropy, nonprofit management, social enterprise, organisational development, or a related field, with a clear understand of Hong Kong’s social good sector, will be an advantage.
• Strong problem‑solving, organisational, and facilitation capabilities alongside a collaborative mindset.
• Experience planning and implementing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and moving initiatives to completion.
• Demonstrated ability to build trust with partners, listen carefully, exercise sound judgement, and follow through on commitments while maintaining professionalism.
• Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese, with the ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders from different sectors and professional backgrounds.
