Job Summary
The Product Development Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of insurance products. This role leads product ideation, design, pricing input coordination, regulatory documentation, product launch planning, and ongoing enhancements. The manager partners with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Distribution, Operations, Compliance, Marketing, and Claims) to ensure products are commercially competitive, actuarially sound, and compliant with regulatory and internal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end product development activities, from product strategy and requirements gathering to launch and post-launch improvements.
- Define product scope, target customer segments, value proposition, and product features in alignment with business strategy.
- Coordinate with Actuarial on pricing assumptions, reserves considerations, profitability objectives, and product structuring (as applicable).
- Develop and maintain product documentation including product specifications, benefit schedules, policy wordings, sales materials, and implementation guides.
- Ensure product proposals and changes meet regulatory requirements, internal governance processes, and compliance standards.
- Manage project plans, timelines, and deliverables across cross-functional teams; drive successful execution and product launch.
- Liaise with Distribution/Sales teams to ensure product design supports sales effectiveness, customer needs, and appropriate suitability practices.
- Collaborate with Operations and Systems to confirm product readiness, administration capabilities, workflow updates, and system configuration requirements.
- Support Product Governance activities including product approval submissions, risk assessments, and change control.
- Monitor product performance post-launch (e.g., sales uptake, persistency, complaint trends, claims experience indicators where available) and drive enhancements.
- Identify improvement opportunities to strengthen customer experience, product competitiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Manage vendors or consultants (if any) supporting product development, documentation, or system changes.
Job Requirements / Qualifications:
- Degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Solid knowledge of insurance product development, product governance, and life/general insurance principles (as applicable).
- Experience coordinating cross-functional projects and managing stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations for product approval and product governance.
- Analytical skills with ability to interpret data to support product decisions.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and strong project management ability.
- Proficiency in project management tools and standard documentation practices.
