Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong invites applications for a senior academic leadership post to spearhead maritime programmes. The role oversees strategic development, programme governance, external engagement and quality assurance across the Institute.
The successful candidate will possess a recognised degree and a postgraduate qualification in a related discipline, with strong leadership and language skills in English and Chinese.
(a) To lead the strategic development of maritime related programmes offered at the Maritime Services Training Institute and take-charge of the overall management to ensure an efficient and smooth operation of the Institute;
(b) To plan, control and keep under review the provision and utilisation of staff and other resources of the Institute;
(c) To play a leading role in the development, validation and accreditation of programmes;
(d) To serve in Programme Board(s), Boards of Examiners and other academic / management committees and work groups as required;
(e) To develop and review quality policies and procedures, and to monitor the standard and quality of the training programmes offered by the Institute;
(f) To maintain close contacts with industry and professional bodies as well as to liaise with members of the industry and public for establishing collaborative arrangement;
(g) To initiate and develop new services and programmes to meet the needs of the industry;
(h) To explore new opportunities and develop new services and programmes for the Institute, such as developing consultancy, corporate training programmes or top-up degree programmes;
(i) To work closely with all stakeholders, both internal and external, for the betterment of vocational and professional education and training; and
(j) To perform teaching duties and/or supervise student projects where necessary.
(a) A recognised degree and a post-graduate qualification in related discipline or equivalent, preferably with relevant professional qualifications would be an advantage;
(b) Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer)(Seagoing) Class 1 (Master Mariner) or Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) (Seagoing) Class 1, or equivalent would be an advantage;
(c) At least 8 years’ relevant experience at supervisory level. Experience on board ships would be an advantage;
(d) Good records of professional development and networking ability;
(e) Good understanding of the current and future development of vocational and professional education and training in maritime industry;
(f) Good track records in leading industry networking activities such as securing student workplace attachments, initiating and developing new programmes or services, etc.;
(g) Strong leadership ability, good managerial, interpersonal, communication and team-building skills, and the ability to work independently; and
(h) Good presentation skills and a high level of proficiency in both English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua.
(1) The post is at the rank of Principal Lecturer.
(2) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
(3) Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment and make a presentation at the interview.
