Job summary

Deacons IP Department in Hong Kong seeks an experienced patent attorney/agent to deliver high-quality patent and design services to local and international clients. This role involves drafting, prosecution, and strategic portfolio advice across multi-jurisdiction matters.

You will collaborate with IP lawyers and para-professionals in a fast-paced, English-Chinese environment, requiring strong organisational and communication skills and a technical degree in engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher technical qualification, preferably in mechanical or electronic engineering.
• Admission as Patent Agent/Attorney in a recognised jurisdiction.
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in an established firm; candidates with more experience considered.
• Good organisational skills and ability to work under deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and patent system knowledge.
• Service-oriented, team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; self-motivated and quick learner.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).
• Proficiency in MS Office; experience with patent drafting/filing processes.

Our team comprises highly professional and experienced IP lawyers working together with Patent Agents/Attorneys, paralegals and executives.

Responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of patent and design work, from original drafting of high quality specifications, prosecution and advising on freedom to operate and enforcement issues
• Provide strategic advice for patent and design portfolios for a variety of clients including SME’s, university and listed entities
• Draft and respond to client communications and Patent Office communications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Higher technical qualification; preferably in mechanical engineering or electronic engineering
• Admission as a Patent Agent/Attorney in a recognised jurisdiction
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in an established firm, candidates with more experience will also be considered
