Job summary

WSP is seeking an Operations Director, Hong Kong, to join our senior leadership team and drive operational excellence, financial performance, and project delivery across the Hong Kong & Mainland China region.

You will lead cross-functional teams, shape strategic initiatives, and engage key clients to strengthen relationships and create value on major projects within Asia.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in a complex, client-facing organisation.
• Established track record of leading and growing a P&L with strong commercial acumen.
• Proven experience in driving operational performance, profitability and budget delivery.
• Experience in engineering, professional services, consultancy or client organisations would be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of markets across Asia and the regional business landscape.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, risk management and performance management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Business Line Heads to drive operational excellence, business performance and budget delivery.
• Lead the business operational structure across commercial, legal, finance, human resources, quality, compliance and other functions.
• Develop and implement action plans to achieve leading operational, SHEQ, and financial performance.
• Engage directly with key clients, strengthening relationships and adding value across major projects and key accounts.
• Drive digital innovation, standardisation, simplification and continuous process improvement to enhance client and business outcomes.
• Lead bid and commercial strategies for high-risk, strategically important opportunities with market benchmarks.
• Drive effective resource planning, workload management and utilisation across the business.
• Oversee budget preparation, forecasting and delivery against key performance metrics (Net Revenue, Operating Margin, EBITDA, DSO).
• Monitor major project performance, risks and opportunities with timely intervention and governance.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement across the business.
• Chair monthly and quarterly performance reviews and support senior leadership reporting.
• Provide visible leadership and develop leaders to strengthen accountability and performance.

Position Summary

We are looking for an Operations Director, Hong Kong to join our senior leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving the performance and operational effectiveness of our business.

Accountable to the Hong Kong & Mainland China Managing Director and responsible to the Asia Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Director will work closely with Business Line Heads and other senior leaders to drive operational excellence, financial performance, project delivery and client value.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Business Line Heads to drive operational excellence, business performance and budget delivery.
• Lead the business operational structure, working across commercial, legal, finance, human resources, quality, compliance and other corporate functions.
• Develop and implement action plans to achieve leading operational, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ), and financial performance.
• Engage directly with key clients, strengthening relationships and adding value across major projects and key accounts.
• Drive digital innovation, standardisation, simplification and continuous process improvement to enhance client and business outcomes.
• Lead bid and commercial strategies for high-risk and strategically important opportunities, drawing on market benchmarks and competitor insights.
• Drive effective resource planning, workload management and utilisation across the business.
• Oversee budget preparation, forecasting and delivery against key performance metrics including Net Revenue, Operating Margin, EBITDA and Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
• Monitor major project performance, risks and opportunities, driving timely intervention and effective project governance where required.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement, ensuring best practices and lessons learned are shared across the business.
• Chair monthly and quarterly performance reviews and support senior leadership reporting.
• Provide visible leadership, supporting and constructively challenging leaders to strengthen accountability and overall business performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated senior leadership experience within a complex, client-facing organisation.
• An established track record of leading and growing a P&L, with strong commercial and financial acumen.
• Proven experience in driving operational performance, profitability and budget delivery.
• Experience within engineering, professional services, consultancy or a client organisation would be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of markets across Asia and the regional business landscape.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, risk management and performance management.
• Proven ability to manage and develop teams, influence senior stakeholders and build trusted, long-term client relationships.
• Strong strategic thinking, project management, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to operate effectively across different levels of an organisation.
• Strong people leadership with a focus on accountability, talent development and succession planning.
