Job summary

Liberty in Asia Pacific seeks an Architect to define and lead the technology strategy and architecture roadmap across Singapore and Hong Kong. This role provides architectural leadership for complex, cross-functional initiatives and modernization that shape the market technology landscape.

The successful candidate will partner with IT, Compliance, Legal, Risk and vendors to drive sound architecture decisions, promote reuse, and deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • 12–15 years engineering/architecture experience in complex, multi-platform environments (insurance/fintech preferred).
  • Strong backend/frontend skills: Java 8+ (21), Spring Boot 3.x, Angular/React.
  • Practical AWS cloud and containerization experience; GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
  • IaC experience: Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL, caching and messaging systems.
  • Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Security, compliance, regulatory awareness, payment controls.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot).
  • Ability to learn quickly and influence across diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture discussions; balance modernization with new capabilities and platform improvements.
  • Document current/target architectures; present changes for feedback in design forums.
  • Ensure alignment to APAC standards; drive governance through architecture review processes.
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders across business and tech functions; influence policies and backlogs.

Job description

The Architect is responsible for defining and leading the technology strategy and architecture roadmap for assigned business or technology capability platforms across Singapore and Hong Kong. This role provides architectural leadership for complex, cross-functional initiatives including tech debt management and modernization that shape the future of the market technology landscape, ensuring alignment between business objectives, technology strategy, and the enterprise architecture framework.

The successful candidate will report to the Architecture and Engineering leader with a strong alignment to the regional architecture team on strategic directions. Furthermore, the candidate will also have effective partnership with a wide variety stakeholders across the organization including IT teams, Compliance, Legal, Risk, business leaders and external vendors to drive sound architecture decisions, promote reuse and standardization, and support the delivery of scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective solutions.

The Architect serves as a trusted advisor and thought leader, influencing strategic decisions in a matrixed environment and advancing architecture and engineering practices across the organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop a sound understanding of business strategies, value chain, processes and pain points. Lead architecture discussions and drive decisions to balance tech modernization, new capabilities, enhancements, and platform improvements.
  • Document the current and target-state architecture whilst ensuring they are up to date. For key technology changes, present and seek feedback in the Market solution design forum.
  • Ensures alignment of market solutions and architectures (application, data, security, technical) to LII APAC standards by driving market adherence to Global Architecture review board process, actively participating in consultancy and review of market proposals.
  • Provide consultation and architectural guidance to a wide variety of stakeholders across business and technology functions. Influence policies, standards, strategies, and governance frameworks, and provide oversight at portfolio level to support prioritization of business and architecture backlogs.
  • Work with regional architects and business leaders in development and documentation of market Target state / North Star architectures, emphasizing TCO, capability and standards considerations.
  • Drive adoption of architecture playbook components and promote modern architectural patterns, including event-driven architecture, observability, zero trust, and data privacy principles to improve reuse, resilience, and interoperability.
  • Prototype and assess complex cross-platform solutions to validate new technologies, specially AI-agentic framework, Ai Harness engineering and architectural approaches. Review major design proposals to ensure solutions are maintainable, flexible, secure, scalable, and cost-effective.
  • Drives security-first mindset through all market engagements and drives a strong security posture through enterprise tools (Radar, NoName, Codacy,...) and patterns.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and enterprise resource to advance architecture and engineering capabilities across the organization. Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, standards development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor team members to strengthen architecture and technical capabilities, promoting a culture of learning, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
  • Represent the organization externally through professional communities, events, publications, speaking engagements, and other industry forums where relevant.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of engineering, programming, or architecture experience with at least 10 years of architecture experience in applications development in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment. Strong background in insurance, banking, fintech, or similarly regulated industries preferred
  • Strong programming experience in at least one backend/front-end language (Java 8 and latest version Java 21, Spring boot 3.X, Spring MVC, Angular, React)
  • Practical experience with AWS cloud platforms and Docker/containerization
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, caching, and messaging systems
  • Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
  • Familiarity with testing strategies, AI-enabled automated testing frameworks, and observability tools including logs, metrics, and tracing
  • Knowledge of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements, including payment-related controls where applicable
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot Agent mode for prototyping, debugging, and iterative development
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of insurance, banking or fintech services.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and build expertise in diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
  • Strong influencing and consensus building skills, and the adaptability to respond to change quickly. Strong communications skills, both written and verbal. Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization with diverse backgrounds. Proven experience with agile practices and expectations.
  • Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. Strong consulting skills (relevant/technical); recognized as a thought leader within the company. Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of decisions. Experience leveraging offshore development resources.
