Job summary

Markel in Hong Kong is seeking an experienced underwriting leader to influence market presence and deliver on the agreed loss ratio targets. You will operate under the underwriting authority granted, focusing on developing the line of business in line with the business plan.

You will lead business planning, build and maintain relationships with targeted brokers, contribute to product development, and supervise underwriters.

Responsibilities

• Business planning~ Involvement with business planning process as required by DMD
• Marketing / broker development~ Responsible for building and maintaining excellent relationships with their targeted brokers and involvement in marketing initiatives as required
• Product development~ Involvement in product development as required by DMD
• Supervision~ Will work independently and make underwriting decisions with minimal referral to DMD; manage, coach and support the underwriters reporting to them.
• Technical knowledge~ Superior knowledge of a line of business is required with reputation for expertise within their market
• Underwriting standards~ Ensure that underwriting standards and procedures are complied with for their line and that all data input and systems are in line with agreed procedures for their team
